It's actually SOOO cool seeing so many people interact with my posts regarding what I consider to be pretty niche interests of mine. But it's a big internet, right?
Anyways, I've been a massive fan of Ascendance of a Bookworm for years, but almost no one in my immediate sphere is all that interested in it. Which, like, is to be expected, as I again must say that I consider it a pretty niche interest of mine. But still, considering how long I've adored, no, how long I've been near OBSESSED with it, it's also been relatively lonely. And that's the thing with a lot of hyper fixations, right? Other people usually won't understand why it's so appealing, or like, they intellectually get it, but it doesn't mean the same to them? And I doubt my obsession with aoab is exactly that same as anyone else's interest with it that's on here, nor will I lie and say that I'm anywhere near it's biggest fan, but it's still so cool to find an actual space in which I can freely talk about this obsession of mine and not feel like I'm talking only to myself. Which, to be fair, I do that anyways, but yeah. Good. Good book series! Me like! Me likey it a whole lot!
As it so happens to turn out, two Claws and a Go For the Eyes enchanted with adroit (from kifuda, makes the card apply 3 block when played), combined with Vakuuâs music box (makes an ethereal copy of the first attack played each round) is REALLY FREAKING GOOD
I got into act 3 in A10 doing crazy claw damage but next to no block and was struggling, when the very first merchant after Vakuu was selling kifuda. There was a mystic lighter there too, but I couldnât afford both
Because of how music box works, you make more of the first attack you play, which includes enchantments! Itâs like free Feral, with extra steps. And combined with Feral, itâs like you get to play 3 claws in a single round.
Very fun run. I almost never win A10 runs, so im happy with this one
can't focus on anything or work on any creative projects right now because i have a phone call with my mom scheduled in. 4 hours. uuuuhhhhhhggggg i hate my ADHD or autism or whatever the fuck it is my brain has that makes it impossible to take out the trash or enjoy my own hobbies. which. i should go do now. both things, i mean.
Human trafficking and child abuse â disrespecting a noble đŤ great society Myne has reincarnated into lol. Man this episode pissed me off, Iâm sorry, but not all cultures are worth respecting and one that doesnât penalize child abuse and is ok with the Mayor of Hasseâs actions all because he brings âstabilityâ is evil.
âI donât know how to plot against othersâ man this genuinely hurt me sm because Myne legitimately doesnât have an evil or mean bone in her body đ youâd think Ferdinand wouldâve understood this because he scanned her memories before. The fact heâs so comfortable with systematically destroying someone is concerning though lmao. If thereâs anyone worth practicing how to be an evil mastermind on, itâs the mayorâs bitch ass, though, so Iâm really excited to see what Ferdinand and Myne cook up. In his own little sick and twisted way, heâs very excited to help Myne out.
âJust change your way of thinking. Youâre saving, not hurting peopleâ and as usual, itâs Lutz keeping Myne grounded and helping her lock in! Best friend. I also think Myne seeing how grateful all the kids sheâs saved are to her will also have motivated her!

And actually, since Iâm on a big Ascendance of a Bookworm kick right now, I also want to talk a bit about Wilfried.
I think it was @rozemynelovebot who relatively recently made a post discussing their very complicated feelings towards Wilfried? Hopefully Iâm right. Anyways, it was a post that of which I really enjoyed reading, and I want to add onto that discussion, if just a bit.
I really like Wilfried as a character, because more than any other, he feels like an actual child to me. Children in this series have a tendency to show a lot of maturity, even at really young ages, and while I do think that is reflective of real life (children irl are WAAAAY smarter than most adults give them credit for. theyâre people too), I do think it goes a bit too far sometimes.
Ultimately thatâs just my opinion, but it reflects my thoughts towards Wilfried. Heâs impulsive, brash, naive, thick-headed, arrogant, and thinks he knows everything: which is exactly like many a teenager.
But thatâs not all there is to him. Much like his father, Wilfried can be kind and thoughtful. Ultimately he wants to do good for the people around him, and he grows to understand the qualities of people that one should hold respect for. As the story progresses, he does grow and change, and itâs so great to see.
And yetâŚheâs so dumb. Heâs a spoiled brat, who doesnât understand anything about the real world. As far as I remember, he never comes to realize just how often heâs so easily manipulated by the people around him. Heâs blind to the harm he often causes, and unlike his father, he never shows that greater judgement youâd want to see in someone whoâs supposed to be a leader.
He makes decisions and says things without thinking, he forgets his place and orders around people he has no business ordering around, and he never truly understands either of his sisters.
Itâs hard to blame him due to the damage Veronicaâs obsessive love caused him growing up, especially since that damage is so difficult to see. But at the same time, much of his faults are, well, his fault.
How many times does he refuse to grow as a person? How many times does he accept when heâs made a mistake? He almost never comes to these conclusions himself, he only ever evolves when given external pressure and expectations. Itâs almost like he has little to none self reflection, and what self reflection he does show is, ironically, inherently selfish.
So I love Wilfried, just as much as I hate him. I want good things for him, but I know that, without some radical changes, he should never be a leader.
Regarding Rozemyne (light novel discussion):
Thereâs a post somewhere on this lovely hell site that talks about Rozemyneâs connection with her many mothers, and the inherent sadness of none of them ever really being able to properly mother her.
In her first life, it was because Urano was distant, and didnât fully appreciate everything her mom did for her, and she died before she could realize that.
Then she became Myne, and she struggled with the love given to her by Effa because it felt so disorienting and alien. But then too she grew as a person, and realized the faults of her past life and realized that Effa was her mom, and that she loved her family so much, to the point that she was willing to die again rather than be taken away from them.
But ultimately, after only a few short years, she is taken from them, and she has to accept that because itâs the only way to protect her family.
She then gains Elvira, but Elvira doesnât know her and she doesnât know Elvira. In her head, Effa is still âmomâ, but Elvira is only âmotherâ whenever Rozemyne has to talk to someone else irl. We very late in the story learn how much Elvira grew to love and appreciate Rozemyne, and how much she regrets never taking action to properly mother Rozemyne, instead making the assumption that, with Ferdinand and Florencia around, it wasnât her place. And the fact that she feels this way even after knowing the whole time Rozemyne was commoner born is so so so tasty. She comes to regret her prior hesitation and ignorance towards what she couldâve been for Rozemyne, and those conversations they have in the hidden rooms emotionally devastates me every single time I read them.
And finally, Florencia. Florencia, for a long time, never really saw Rozemyne as her daughter. She couldnât say that she loved her, even though it wasnât long until Florencia would come to admire and respect her adopted daughter. Still, though, her lack of action to be a mother to Rozemyne always sticks out to me, and in the latest parts of Part 5, you finally learn that she does actually regret it. In a sad ironic twist, Florencia thought very much in the same way as Elvira did, thinking that it wasnât her place to be a mother for Rozemyne.
Ultimately, itâs implied Florencia doesnât know about Rozemyneâs commoner status, but we donât actually know. Whatever the case, by the time the series comes to its climax and Ehrenfest prepares to separate from Rozemyne, Rozemyne learns that, after everything, she doesnât really have a place in her home duchy anymore.
Whether that couldâve been fixed by Elvira or Florencia is unlikely, but itâs sad. Just when both adoptive mothers realize what theyâre losing, they also realize just how much they actually cared for this girl who became their daughter. And now sheâs leaving, and any chance to build their relationship with Rozemyne is leaving with her.
Rozemyne forgot Effa, Gunther, Lutz, Ferdinand, but she didnât forget Elvira. And every single time I realize that, I can feel my heart ache for the love that couldâve been there but never was.
Ascendance of a Bookworm and its many parents is so layered. It has so many stories of how complicated these relationships can be, of how regrets can build from ignorance, misconceptions, and simple miscommunication. Or of how obsessive adoration can hurt a childâs future, or how explicit physical and mental abuse from a parent can shape that personâs entire life.
Itâs so human, itâs such a human story. It has magic and politics and things to say about government, power imbalances, religion/faith and corruption, but at its core, Ascendance of a Bookworm has always been about family.
What an interesting and beautiful story. Itâs so difficult to not fall in love Miya Kazukiâs world once you begin to sink your teeth into it.
No but I like when Rozemyne gets all serious. When the kids of the orphanage didn't want to answer she straight up told them that if they did no answer, then they will die. (Kind of mean, but that is reality, so I cannot be too upset about it) and she quoted a pasaage of the Bible. "Who does not work, then he will not eat" so it made me interested.
Is Honzuki also taking stuff from the Christian Bible? Because those are Paul's words.
If so, cool. But then I know it is fantasy and therefore, Christianity is not the main faith. (I do not like calling it religion, but faith, religion IMO is man created stuff not from God)
But I am not here to impose faith, I am just curious.
I imagine that the author used real life religions, faith, and religious texts as inspiration, at the very least, for the faith built within the world of Honzuki.
Not to mention, this is an Isekai. As we all know, Urano before becoming Myne was a very prolific reader, and we learn later in the series of the light novels that sheâs not exactly picky about what she reads.
She absolutely couldâve taken that quote from our world, like how she takes songs from our world when she âcreatesâ music for Ferdinand to compose.
Also, I do really enjoy it when Rozemyne gets serious. Sheâs one of my favorite protagonists because sheâs simultaneously crafty and incompetent, intelligent and silly, focused and yet too obsessed. The anime has a bit of a tendency to amp up her childish behaviors, and it doesnât always fully present her actual inner dialogue faithfully, but when it matters, it does present her character faithfully during important scenes.
Rozemyne, like any well written character, is interesting and layered. Sheâs flawed but skilled, and incredibly engaging. This story and its separate adaptations has given me so much inspiration for my own creative writing endeavors, which is something I canât help but appreciate.
Ascendance of a Bookworm is the only anime that made me actually put in the effort to read the original material, and Iâm very happy I did. Obviously that speaks to my own tastes, but basically Iâm saying that even though the anime doesnât always replicate the light novels/web comics perfectly, it still is in itself a fantastic adaptation that has its own strengths, and I love seeing it stand so well on its own.
Now if only I could get my friends to watch it with meâŚ
i propose a new system where instead of being ill over the course of multiple days you just get all the illness at once and then youâre fucking done. surely thereâs no problems w this idea and only good things can come from it.
on an unrelated note i've been dealing with some kind of headcold/sinus infection since like friday and i'm extremely fucking over it

Hunter support team who go around making houses Haunted so the Hunters have something to do.
How do you make a house haunted?!? Other than murder.
I really just absolutely ADORE Rimuru from
takes a deep breath
thattimeigotreincarnatedasaslime
And for a lot of reasons. I particularly like Isekais, as I enjoy the escapist aspect, but also because the concept of being reborn in another world, in another body specifically, has always been just so enticing.
Could you tell Iâm trans yet? Anyways, Rimuru is just so fucking gender. I understand that the human form they can take is ultimately based off of Shizu, but he did test and learn that he could mold the body however he wanted.
And you know what they did?!? They remained small and innately androgynous. At least in the anime, Rimuru does grow in size a little bit as the series progresses and as they transition (not in that way but lol) into becoming a demon lord.
They frequently dress is various different styles of outfits, lets his friends have fun by letting them dress him in both feminine and masculine styles, and often himself picks clothing that rides that line in between masculinity and femininity.
Heavy scarves and long coats that give him more of an intimidating presence, which can be interpreted as vaguely masculine? Check. Or wide collar shirts that leave the shoulders bare, with long sleeves that are just a little bit too long in that very cute way, which could be interpreted as a vaguely feminine? Check.
Hells, Rimuru at one point ran down his own city streets in a fucking bunny girl outfit. Like, it was clearly the classic joke of âlook how embarrassing this isâ, but i mean, cmon. We all know they can shape shift at will, if Rimuru cared about being seeing that way, alls they would have had to do was transform himself back into a slime.
So yeah! And like, i love the anime for a lot of other reasons: i find the story interesting, i love the ensemble cast of unique characters, I enjoy the artistic style and I particularly love the world building. I do feel like its magic system is a bit lacking, but hey, no series is perfect.
So while TTIGRAAS (the fuck is this acronym) might not be my favorite story, Rimuru is absolutely my favorite Isekai protagonist.
