D-7 to CMUNNY (D-6 till NY), and the campus is looking great. What more can I ask for?

It’s going to be a hectic week-- but, hey, I got this. (Just kidding, I’m super nervous).

You know when there’s that thing you’ve been thinking about trying, and you’re hesitant to jump start it because it seems a bit bigger than yourself and super intimidating because you have so much respect for the people doing it because it takes a bunch of skills that you don’t think you have?  Yeah, well that super big, scary thing, was MUN for me. I’ve been wanting to try it since freshman high school. That’s a good 5 years. But I’ve been going to the interest meetings here at WAC and jumped on it! Did the tryout simulations (sims) and the interview (which I think was quite a bit scary but fun--one of the questions was essentially, “we’re in the middle of a desert. sell us coffee.”). Thought the sims went terribly (I didn’t say or do much because I like to observe first, then act), but the interview went well.  And I was having a terrible day and nothing was going well, but then my man Dan (on the eboard) gave me a hint that “he thought that I’ll be happy to see the email”. And so I pretty much knew I was in, BUT there’s nothing like seeing the actual email (after anxiously waiting for the email itself).

I’m extremely happy and celebrating by treating myself to a nice drink from Sophie’s. 

I am officially a member of the WACMUN CMUNNY 2016 team.

The Euro and the Scalpel - Edward Hugh

Scarily persuasive article about the future of the Eurozone. Did not make me less worried about our global economic situation.

However, I have to admit that after I had calmed down a bit, my next thought was: wouldn't this make a great Model UN committee?

Which is pretty much everyone following us right? Well here's information about CIRCA at Columbia University. Check it out!

This October, Columbia’s international relations club will host CMUNNY, a global Model United Nations conference for undergraduate students. During these conferences, we have hosted simulations of governments, peace negotiations, and political conventions, as well as less conventional organizations like the Underground Council of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party. This year, we are looking for enthusiastic staffers who can help guide intellectually-engaging committees and high-quality debate.

While experience is a bonus, it is absolutely not required; all we ask for is a genuine interest in politics and international relations. If you are intrigued and eager to know more, we are hosting a general information session during which we will explain what the conference entails, which committees are available, how the application process works, and more! This information session will be held on Wednesday September 14th at 8:30 PM in Hamilton 702.

And I do learn a lot from MUN. Some of the past positions I've held that have really stuck with me are Lebanon at THIMUN-Singapore, Turkey at UPMUNC, WHO at BEIMUN, Sri Lanka at Georgetown, Russia at Cambridge MUN and Iran at McMUN. I really learn so much about the position I have to represent and I enjoy nerding out on MUN and IR inside jokes.
