âAll Iâm saying is that we should add a little healthy competition to this hunt.â Your shoulders shrugged before scooting forward in your seat, letting your elbows rest against the front seat to glance between the brothers.
Samâs brows furrowed for a second as he switched his attention from the road to your face. âThis sounds like a pretty serious case, do you think we should be playing games?â
The smirk that was on your lips dropped in a second, followed by a groan. âItâs nothing bad, just thought it could add a little motivation.â
âC'mon Sammy, since when do Winchesterâs turn down competition? Scared youâre gonna lose?â You gave Dean a grateful smile, and he shot you a quick wink over his shoulder. Such a simple action had your cheeks turning a deeper shade of pink. He was just so damn cute. If Dean Winchester winks at you, you blush. Itâs just science.
Sam let out a sigh and rubbed his hand across his jaw. âAlright, fine, letâs hear it.â
âWell thereâs two wraiths, right?â Both brothers nodded in confirmation. âAlright. The hotel has two beds and a couch. Whoever doesnât get a kill sleeps on the couch.â You smirked at both of them before reclining back in your seat, crossing your arms over your chest.
Dean scoffed and stopping the car at the red light before fully turning his head to look at you. âThatâs what you want? A chance to sleep on one of the beds?â He chuckled lightly and shook his head. âSorry to tell ya, sweetheart but youâll probably be on the couch again. Sammy and I have had our fair share of wraith hunts.â
âThen you should have no problems agreeing. Or are you scared youâre gonna lose? There was a mocking tone in your voice and your eyes locked with his in the rearview mirror in a challenge. There was no chance you were going to tell them youâve hunted a wraith before. Multiple times actually, but you werenât going to mess this up.
Back when you first joined the Winchesterâs you had politely offered to take the couch the first few times and it soon just because a routine. Now any time you tried to sleep on an actual mattress they would each pass out on the beds before you even bad a chance. As much as you loved them, your back was no longer having it.
âAlright, sweetheart. Youâre on.â
Norman, Oklahoma was a five and a half hour drive from Lebanon. It was also home to the Bates Asylum. Naturally, Dean had made a joke about Norman Bates that had both you and Sam rolling your eyes. There were three deaths that occurred in the past three weeks. Before their deaths, each victim had claimed of nurses beings monsters with rods coming from their wrists.
Garth had mentioned that they were staying in the lower maintenance levels of the facility. The three of you waited until nightfall to try and be discrete as possible.
Sam got the first kill. You werenât inside for more than ten minutes before he plunged the silver knife into the chest of the wraith. He had chuckled and sent the both of you a smirk. âLooks like Iâm sleeping good.â
The second wraith was much harder. Dean had gotten a spare chance but thankfully for you, he had only nicked the monsters arm. The three of you werenât leaving until the bastard was dead and had all agreed to split up in order to cover more ground. The hallways seemed never ending, the storage closets and spare rooms were every ten feet.
A feeling of defeat started to bubble in the center of your chest. It was another fifteen minutes until you heard any sign of life coming from down the hall. You could hear a loud clash from a room at the far end of the hall followed by a loud grunt from who sounded like Dean.
You sprinted down the hall, coming to a skidding halt at the room in front of you. Dean was on his back struggling with the monster who was on top of him. Taking a quick glance to assess the situation, you noticed Deanâs gun was flung across the room. The wraithâs spike was out and heading straight for the eldest Winchesterâs neck.
âDean!â His eyes darted to the hand closing in on his neck. The hunterâs quick reflexes had his fingers wrapping around the spike and giving it a quick flick of his wrist - snapping it in half.
The wraith let out an ungodly screech, a dark liquid spewing from the broken spike. It stumbled back and withered in pain. Your hand instinctly reached for the tomahawk in the holster. It only took you seconds to line up your target. With a heave of your arm, the tomahawk was sent flying through the air. The silver blade landed with precision, hitting the wraith in the heart.
Your face broke out into a shit eating grin before turning to Dean, practically giddy. âDid you see that?!â
His face was a mixture of shock and awe, eyes darting back and forth between you and your surprise weapon of choice. âIs that a fucking tomahawk?!â
Dean grumbled the entire time while making up the couch. He yanked the sheets a little too hard, threw the pillows down with an extra ounce of force. Naturally, he tried coaxing you out of your win. Explaining that he was the one that broke the spike, practically giving you the kill shot. But you werenât about to let that slide.
You smiled to yourself and surrounded yourself in pillows. Sighing in content a little extra loud as you nestled deep within the covers. Sam was already snoring by the time Dean had settled down on the lumpy couch. It was comical seeing his feet hang off the edge, his legs awkwardly bent, arms trying to make his pillow a little more supportive. âSweet dreams, Dean.â
You werenât sure how long you were asleep, but you knew it wasnât morning. There was no way that much time had passed. The nudging against your shoulder was insistent, forcing you to peak your eyes open. The room was still dark, the only light peaking through the curtain from the street light.
Even in the dim light, you could easily tell it was Dean and he had a pout on his face. âSweetheart, please switch me places⌠I know you won fare and square but my back hurts and my neck feels all tingly.â
His poor little face broke your heart. Dean looked at you with pleading in his eyes. His arms folded around himself, standing before you in only his boxers. âDean, I am not switching youâŚâ You tried not to laugh as his face fell. âBut I will share with you.â
The hunterâs brows furrowed for a moment in confusion, realization only hitting him when you scooted back from the side and pulled the corner of the sheets back. He stood there for a moment as if it was a prank. âWell come on, handsome, makin me cold.â
There wasnât any more encouragement needed. Dean quickly snapped into action, crawling onto the mattress and pulling the covers up to his chest. A deep groan of relief left him as his head hit the pillow, his spine realigning with the help of the supportive mattress. âFeel better?â
He chuckled and nodded rolling onto his side to face you. âSince when did you start using a tomahawk?â
You shrugged and tried to keep your eyes on his, and not get distracted by his chest. Every atom inside of you wanted to reach out and trace the tattoo on his chest. âRufus gave it to me years ago, taught me how to throw it. I havenât used it in forever but I thought this case seemed like a good time to bust her back out.â
âWell it was pretty badass.â Deanâs chuckle was interrupted by a yawn that ripped through you. âWhy donât you get some sleep, honey?â
Your heart soared at the nickname. Sweetheart was something he used quite often, but honey was reserved for special moments like this between you. Nothing had ever happened between the two of you, but you always hoped somewhere inside of him felt something for you.
You gave him a sleepy smile and nodded, rolling so your back was facing him and nuzzled into your pillow, your eyes growing heavier by the second. There was a rustling behind you, the mattress shifting as Dean moved. You felt a warmth pressed against your back followed by a heavy arm that hesitantly draped over your waist. âIs this okay?â His hot breath fanned across your neck, tickling the sensitive skin behind your ear.
You thickly swallowed and nodded your head. âYeah, itâs good.â A few moments passed and the two of you eventually melted into each other. Deanâs arm wrapped a little tighter around you, one of his legs tangled in between yours. It felt good, too good. How were you supposed to sleep on the couch after experiencing this? âHey, Dean?â He hummed against your shoulder in response. âDo you um⌠think we could start sharing at motels now?â
You felt him chuckle softly and you were about to take the question back before you felt his lips press against your shoulder blade. âOnly if you teach me how to throw that tomahawk of yours.â
âYou got yourself a deal, handsome.â You tried to stifle your giggle as he nestled his face into your neck, keeping you secured against him.
A distinct throat clearing from the other side of the room had your spine straightening in an instant. âIf you guys want some time alone, Iâll get my own room.â
This time you couldnât hold back your laugh. Dean groaned and shook his head, but didnât let go of you.
