Really?!?!?
So this is gonna be kinda like a rant, sorry......... So I work at an auto parts store where I am a manager. I won’t say where because then I can’t say most of what I’m about to say. Well we have a policy that states if the computer prompts you that a battery change will take longer than 30 minutes, you are not to change that battery. Because you are not supposed to be outside of the store longer than 15 minutes technically. Along with this policy we are prohibited from changing batteries in the fender well, truck, or under the seats. Also if the battery corrosion is so bad that the terminals are falling a apart we can not touch it!! The thing is the computer doesn’t tell us where the batteries are so we can only tell people we will see what we can do when they get to the store. It’s the same with headlights. If we have to remove the headlight assembly we cannot change the light. Okay on with the story. Well a woman comes in looking for a battery for her newer Chevy. Okay I’m prompted about it taking longer than 45 minutes to instal said battery. I inform the woman of this and she throws a fit.
Customer: I called and they said they would see about it.
Me: Yes I know that. And we don’t know until you come in what we are able to do.
Co-worker (also a manager): that’s not true we can do that.
Customer: see at least someone is willing to do their job and help me.
I just turned over the job to my coworker because I was seething at that point. Guess what took my coworker an hour and now he won’t talk to me after he come in and I told him: “I told you so.” Along with this there is also a fuse on top of that battery that we could possibly damage when changing it. And we are not mechanics but sales persons, as well as we don’t carry that expensive fuse. So policies are in place for a reason.
