Today I read the three of the four books in the 'In the Shadow of the Bear' quartet that I hadn't read yet.
Gosh that's some satisfying YA fiction. And one of the few sort of ya love triangles that I can handle, in that one girl has life long thing for dude, dude gets a thing for girl's cousin who is a Proper Lady, where main character girl is a Warrior
and main character has jealousy and rage issues
and then they break up because dude is also a Warrior, and Proper Lady is a healer, and she will not be with a killer.
and main character has to work out how she feels and if its a crush and it takes another book for the main character and dude to get it together.
and in the mean time, she works out her jealousy issues about the Proper Lady and they become friends, strong and true.
It's actually really awesome.
There's so much that goes on in these books. the first takes place when the main character is 12, and the last when she is 18-19. And everything is just great all over the place.
They are violent and dark but also funny and sweet.
Do you like flawed and human young female protagonists? This is a good series for you. it's good fantasy.
Not perfect, certainly, but it's satisfying.
