After Sam and Tucker cancel their plan to join Danny in a cross-country road trip, Jazz takes it upon herself to take him on their own trip.

Dannyâs dreams had been weird lately, ever since defeating Dan. He expected the nightmares, sure, but the weirdest ones were the ones without Dan. Maybe it had something to do with him seeing an alternate future heâd created, maybe it was his interfering with time, but the dreams happened regardless of the cause.
âYouâve been awake for too long, friend. Newborn ghosts like you still need sleep.â
Danny let out a dry laugh and turned, looking at Pariah Dark himself, but he didnât have the scars of the man heâd fought at age fourteen. âI was a ghost for twenty-five years before I died, thank you very much,â he replied. âYou forget I was a halfa.â
Pariah smiled. âMost do. No one here understands it, how you became half human and half ghost through⌠you called it an electronic device? That doesnât exist yet for us.â
Danny sighed and leaned back in his chair. âRight,â he breathed. âI am the one and only, arenât I?â He paused for a beat, looking Pariah over. âYou came for insight, didnât you?â
âWhen your closest friend is the ghost of time, itâs hard not to indulge.â
âLucky for you, Iâll always be around to hold back such pampering.â There was a thinly veiled threat in the statement, one neither of them missed but only one understood. Danny turned, glancing in one of the few mirrors in his lair. In the reflection, he saw not himself, but Clockwork.

((This is a shorter drabble I thought of a few nights ago when I got thinking about how people are related to their families in other timelines.))
Danny drifted past shelves lined with books and papers. He had thought everything would be old, but aside from the random bits of parchment here and there, everything looked new. From what he could read from the bits that were in English, they covered everything from theories on the big bang to the American Revolution, from the discovery of physics to new discoveries in biology and ghost mechanics. Clockwork had interesting stuff on his shelves.
As Danny aimlessly floated by, he suddenly noticed one book was apparently missing from the shelf. Danny glanced down and noticed a book on the floor a few feet below him. It was open. When he flew down, he saw it was open to a page showing what looked like a black ball weighing down a web. He closed it. The old blue cover read Black Holes: An Extensive Guide on How They Manipulate Space and Gravity.
Why did Clockwork have that kind of book? He was the master of time, not space.
Danny decided to pick up the old book and fly over to Clockwork. He was still sorting some old papers, had said itâd been an order from The Observants when Danny popped in earlier to ask for a place to calm down from another fight. At the very least, it looked like a good two thirds of them were stacked.
âHey Clockwork,â the boy began, getting just a hum in response. He held up the book. âWhyâs this old book here? All your other books look pretty new.â
Clockwork looked over at the book. Then he turned back to the papers he had levitating in front of him. âOh, I had a love of space before I died,â he said with a dismissive hand gesture.
That caught Dannyâs attention. He knew most ghosts were actual ghosts, but heâd never stop to consider if Clockwork was one. Heâd always thought Clockwork was some time ghost that had always existed. Now, a thousand questions buzzed in his mind. Who was Clockwork? How had he died? What had given him time powers?
Before he could stop to think if he should ask, Dannyâd already blurted out, âYou used to be alive? Who were you that you liked space so much?â
Clockwork paused. Then he chuckled, the remaining papers folding themselves into a separate pile. Glancing over his shoulder with a smile, he said, âI suppose itâs time you knew.â
Danny arched an eyebrow. âKnew what? Who did you used to be, Clockwork?â
Once again, Clockwork chuckled as he turned to properly face Danny and crossed his arms. âSassy, quick with come backs, good at keeping secrets, loves space. Who do you think I used to be, kid?â
Danny just stared. What was Clockwork saying? That sounded kind of like Danny. Was Clockwork him? Oh god, was Danny actually dead? Had he stayed split in two some how? How could Clockwork be him, and Danny also be himself? Clockwork had to be playing a trick on him.
When no answer came, Clockwork smiled more. âIâm guessing you want an explanation.â Danny nodded vigorously.
Clockworkâs smile fell as he turned towards the papers again. âDo you remember the first time we met? What Vlad told you while you were stuck in the future?â
The boy nodded again. âYeah, he said Iâd gotten so depressed I asked him to separate my ghost self and human self. And my human self died.â And Danny didnât want to go into any more detail. Thinking about how Dan had come to be made him shiver. Merging with another ghost, especially Vladâs ghost, sounded incredibly creepy.
Clockwork nodded solemnly to himself, as if he was confirming thatâs how it happened. âIâm the ghost of human you from that timeline.â
He was him that had died in Danâs future. Clockwork was the outcome of Dannyâs bad future. Clockwork was him. Danny felt like someone had sat him down in a spinning chair and slapped him. The Master of Time was a Danny. Danny was literally talking to himself.
âB-but,â he stuttered out, âhow does that even work? That timeline doesnât exist anymore! You said it yourself before that Iâm on a better path!â
âYou may be on a better path, but that timeline still exists. Itâs just not the one the worldâs taken.â Two pages from the stack yet to be sorted floated up as Clockwork turned back to Danny. âSay you write this page,â he motioned to one, âand then decide not to use it and write this one instead.â He motioned to the other. âJust because you go with this one doesnât mean the other no longer exists.
âTime is much the same way. There are countless branches. They may not be taken, but that doesnât mean they no longer exist in the tree of time.â He set the papers back on his stack.
That made sense, or at least as much as it could to Danny. The analogy helped. And now that he thought about it, Clockwork formerly being Danny helped explain why he always knew what analogies to use.
âBut if you died after the CAT, how were you there before it?â After all, heâd gone to Clockworkâs lair before it was time to take it. Had he used magic to go back in time?
Danny caught Clockwork glance at him before turning away. It was a look of someone uncomfortable with the questions they were being asked. He drifted forward with the paper stacks towards his console. For a moment, Danny thought Clockwork might not answer.
But he did. âIâm not quite sure myself sometimes.â Then he shuddered, causing his cape to ruffle. It reminded Danny of how Vlad had refused to answer what happened to his human side. âOne moment I was waking up from anesthesia, the next I was waking up in space,â he held his hands out dramatically, âat the start.â
Then Clockwork dropped his arms, taking his staff in both hands. âI suppose time chose me to be its guardian.â Then he laughed to himself. âIâll never understand why. Jazz had the better mind for understanding all of this.â
Jazz. That brought up a question Danny had never thought to ask after the whole Dan incident. âDid any of them ever become ghosts?â A lot of people who died with unfulfilled lives became ghosts, didnât they? Dying in an explosion right before college wouldâve at least left Jazzâs life unfulfilled.
Clockwork, however, rested his arms on the console and shook his head. âNo Danny,â he whispered back, ânone of them became ghosts.â
So his Dannyâs human self had died, gone back in time, and none of his family had become ghosts with him. âSo youâve been alone all these years?â Clockwork nodded in response. Alone. Since the beginning of time. No friends, no family.
Danny didnât understand how Clockwork managed it.
He floated closer. He knew it was probably hard to talk about, but Danny was still brimming with curiosity; he couldnât help but keep digging for answers. âDo you ever think about them? You know, before everything happened?â
Danny heard Clockwork sigh. When he spoke, his voice was still barely more than a whisper. âYes. Sometimes when Iâm not busy, I find myself looking back. Wondering what it wouldâve been like to continue on not knowing. What it wouldâve been like to be you.â He paused as if to swallow. Then, as Clockwork continued, Danny heard his voice start to waver. âSometimes I wish I could go back to that and do it right.â
Hearing his voice waver, someone who was so well spoken and had such a strong voice, it made Dannyâs stomach drop. The boy had so many more questions, but at this point he knew he probably should stop asking them.
He flew up to Clockwork and set a hand on his shoulder for comfort. There had to be a way to help him. âWell,â he began, grasping for something, âtheyâre all still alive now. You made sure of that. Why donât you visit them? Sure it...might be a little weird...but...itâll be nice?â Danny couldnât think of anything else to add.
And just as well; Clockwork shook his head. This time, his voice was room volume again. âJazz might believe you, but you know mom and dad would sooner shoot me than ask questions. With Sam and Tucker, it just wouldnât be the same.â Tears began to brim in his eyes.
Then they began to slip out. âBesides, theyâre not my family anymore!â Clockwork practically dropped his head into his arms and leaned his weight onto the console. His staff fell to the floor and clattered as papers scattered everywhere beside them. His ghostly body shuddered as he sobbed uncontrollably.
Danny didnât know what to do. Clockwork had been a strong, if strict sometimes, mentor to him, a rock for Danny to cling to when something bad happened. Now, not only had he revealed he was Danny from another timeline, but he was so distraught heâd broken into tears. And he was right; he wasnât a ghost from this timeline, so, in a way, The Fentons werenât really his family anymore. They were family, and yet they werenât. So how could Danny comfort him without anything to comfort him with?
He didnât know. So he let Clockwork float there, sobbing into his arms over the life heâd lost from one too many mistakes. And Danny floated there beside him, idly wringing his hands to get rid of the helplessness he felt in being unable to comfort someone he held dear. He decided he would help Clockwork pick up all the papers later.
Eventually, Clockworkâs sobs quieted down. When he looked up at the console in front of him, his cheeks were stained with tears and the skin under his eyes had started to turn green. He straightened himself up, leaning one arm on the console and wiping tears away with the other. âDanny, promise me something.â
âSure, Clockwork. What is it?â
He placed his arm back on the console, a few loose tears still sliding down his cheeks. He took a moment to steady his voice. âDonât take them for granted.â
Danny flew a little closer and put an arm around the ghostâs shoulders. After seeing Clockwork react so strongly and remembering everything that had happened with Dan, Danny felt a lot more appreciative of his friends and family. âOf course, Clockwork. I promise.â

In this AU, Clockwork is the ghost of Danny when he fully dies. In the Bad Future, he was the ghost of human Danny that Dan killed, but in the main reality, heâs just Dannyâs ghost. Since heâs the ghost of time, he has to exist across all time, and his timeline doesnât always line up properly with linear time.
After Danny goes to Clockwork the second time in Masters of All Time, Jazz decides to find him and ask what happened during the fight with Dan that she, Sam, and Tucker missed since Danny wonât tell them the truth. Jazz and Clockwork end up becoming friends, though she figures out Clockworkâs true identity.
Meanwhile, Jazz is suffering from the side effects of the nanobots Vlad put in her bloodstream, and sheâs going to greater and greater lengths to protect Danny without him knowing.
After spending some time with Clockwork, Jazz makes a startling discovery: heâs Danny. Now, Jazz is determined to keep her brother alive as long as possible, even if she has to stoop to the enemyâs level to do it.
Featuring Sharon Belle as Jazz, Logan Lerman as Danny, Henry Cavill as Clockwork, and Robert Downey Jr. as Vlad
Yâknow, I hate the idea that Danny just cowered in the corner and waited to die after Dan was formed. He knew what would happen if Dan got out (I have a lot of headcanons about TUE, but letâs just stick with the one for now), so Danny fought. Vlad ran out as fast as he could, but Danny? He fought like hell with a shard of broken glass from a beaker and what little strength he had left after the procedure- after having half of himself literally ripped out of his body.
So no, Danny didnât just die when Dan was created. He went down swinging.

Sorta related to the Clockwork Phantom AU: y'know how everyone always draws Clockwork with that like Prince Lotor or Lucius Malfoy hair? What if it was actually just that short, fluffy, messy thing Danny has going on?
I have no idea how long this has been buried in my inbox Iâm so sorry but YES FLUFFY HAIRED CLOCKWORK!
Jazz Fenton prior to and during âSecret Weaponsâ (or as I like to call it, âthe one where Jazz played Danny and Vlad and got away with itâ)
But seriously, I think that everything Jazz did in this episode was intentional. She got Danny mad enough at her that she could sneak off to investigate Vlad without him noticing (Vlad was even going to buy her story when she found the lab until Danny and Skulker showed up). She probably has a flash drive hidden somewhere of some of Vladâs business papers showing how corrupt he is and a video of him transforming for blackmail.
