I've mentioned before an idea for if I were to do my own ThunderCats series, see my previous post on the subject matter for that, but I have been thinking of the fact that Thundera is a monarchy, so why not have regnal numbers? Who is to say Lion-O is or has to be Lion-O I.
By Having Lion-O not be the first monarch of his name, it allows for an interesting way to learn about leadership by looking at the previous Lion-Os and not suffer the same flaws they had. You can even apply this to Claudus, even other characters potentially.
I said that I'd have it be so the lions, tiger, leopards and jaguars would all be cadet branches of the House of Panthera. Well, why not look at Sparta as an example, which was a diarchic monarchy, meaning it had a two king system. The Houses of Tigris and Leo would be the two main branches, the branches that the Kings of Thundera come from. Therefore, Tygra would be the King of Thundera for the House of Tigris and would similarly look to past Tygras and take note of their flaws so as not to repeat their mistakes.
Taking note of Jaga's position of Lord of the ThunderCats in the original series, the official function of the House of Onca would be to serve as a regent in the case that one or both of the kings are not old enough to govern, but I can imagine an eventual reform to a single-monarch system, but with it alternating between the various branches so that way Thundera will always have a king from one of the cadet branches of the House of Panthera. In the case where a regent is not needed, drawing from the 2011 series, the function of the House of Onca would be to serve as Thundera's spiritual leaders.
The official function of the House of Pardus, that is to say the leopards, would be to serve as military leaders. Panthro himself would have an arc of wanting to be something other than a general and would leave the ThunderCats to travel Third Earth in search of the peace that he has never truly known.
That leaves the House of Uncia, the snow leopards. Due to a lack of representation in the franchise, I am at a loss of what to do for them, but maybe some day, such an idea will come to mind.
Of course, I have other ideas. The idea that by the time Lion-O and Tygra come along, Thundera is in the middle of a civil war and that imperialism and warmongering has corrupted it to the point that Thundera's fall might actually be a requirement so it can then be reborn as something better.
