Day 14: Clint Barton/Matt Murdock
"Good morning."
Clint's footsteps are light, but not inaudible as he pads into the kitchen, where Matt's going over a deposition. He doesn't respond; long enough for Matt to suspect he'd forgotten to put his ears on again.
The next time he sidles past--the soft shuffling of powder into paper implies that he's going about his morning cuppa--Matt lets one of his hands reach out and settle against his side. Clint stops, then shuffles a bit to face him.
Matt slides the hand up until it rests at the side of his neck, just under his ear. He tilts his head.
It takes a moment for Clint to understand, still groggy with sleep, but after a few seconds, he curses.
"Fuck! Sorry babe," There's a click, then the low hum of machinery, "did you say something?"

realistic matt -> clord: we were once cool being the only two clones who weren't just more of the same, but then you left and changed in ways I don't understand. you dont tell us anything and I hate that I still want to try because I am nostalgic for a time you don't seem to care for anymore. If i see 'tom replacement' matt i think that would be the final straw.

If I gave tomatoredd a gun and pointed at you directly after I'm pretty sure you would be on the ground in the next instant. I would do it myself but I hate looking at you.
clord -> realistic matt: oh thank god you aren't tom and are willing to keep me company so I won't go completely insane. this is something i can exploit and if i play my cards right, an opportunity. I like talking to you, its easy in ways that if I process and acknowledge it might break me.

clord -> 'tom replacement' matt: Apt moniker. i wish there was more complexity to what we had but I won't deny such a handsome weapon for me to wield if he's so eager to please. hopelessly co-dependent on the clatt. You are a connection to everything I once had in so many ways, but if it went right instead of the way it did.
'tom replacement' matt -> clord: Everything feels like its Melting but you some how are able to create a point of clarity to what degradation that I am experiencing and direction. Hopelessly co-dependent on the clord. Shape me, see me as you will, either way you are looking at me. lets make each other worse, together.
'tom replacement' matt -> realistic matt: you are like a matt who is every flaw that I resent in matt prime. bunnying establish dominance by being more relaxed than you. are you mad? you should. I refuse to be replaced and especially by you. I would kill you oh I would kill you. ragebaiting my ugly clone pt 20.
some other thoughts that didnt really fit in the triangle vvvvv:
do you know how easy it is to slot thematic themes into these clatts?? they're literally called "replacement" and "realistic" like COME THE HELL ON. <- says this like this didn't take all day pondering and being haunted by specters in the night.
I think both clatts would hate their own kinds for different reasons, but all the more reason why they would go at each other's throats. at least considering the reasons why they want each other dead and the reason why they hate other matts are in some part one in the same. I think r!matt though would get along with matt prime well enough. replacement matt unnerves him though.
characterization for replacement matt and some part clord is pulled mostly from @smilepawz and plush post here. but i think once i got the ball rolling with the R&R angle, the dynamic started to fall into place more. still a little rough though these might not be my final thoughts, I unsurprisingly mostly think about r!matt
because i have favorites i put redd in there, mostly because I written a script where r!matt effectively did just that. fun joke for me I hope I get to that script its def a multiparter.
also I wanted to also have a secret third thing where they just talked about themselves but thats because I thought about r!matts and then blanked on the other two, but here is said matt here vvvv
realistic matt:
enrichment and socialization from the other rejects and the occasional meat pumpkin made me comfortable to not need to mask as much as matt prime has, not that would work with my looks now. I have found a family here that I begrudgingly say I care about more than I let on. I would do everything for them because there is no one on this earth that would make me feel as seen as I do with them and I'm bitter about that. I should make them think I would kill them in their sleep.

oh man i have thoughts about redd outside of their core group of rejects, one of those being they begin to not know how to handle themselves. Clatt is making it worse. Clatt is ready to fuck around and find out. idk if Clatt knows another matt is in there but lets just say these claws aren't just for attracting mates.
its like documenting low socialized wolves in captivity and making a very misinformed research article about how wolves interact without taking into account how they behave outside of those conditions <3
the brief appearance of monster!redd is basically a last ditch attempt to try to restabilize and defend themselves, because otherwise they are this🤏close to Exploding. they are internalizing a lot of unhealthy mechanisms to keep themselves from exploding around the clordclatt tbf
