Verse: 1940s/WW2 Verse - Nazi Occupied France, for Max and Madeleine.
With daylight waning, Madeleine was trying to keep her head down, and get home as quickly as possible without any extra attention. She had certainly tried her luck enough. Having done some work for the resistance, she knew she was taking her life into her own hands, especially when doing things in broad daylight. Things had become increasingly harder to come by, and to do without getting caught. In particular, things had started to get dangerous for Madeleine, with people paying close attention to her who happened to agree with the Nazi values and rules. It was only a matter of time before she figured she would also need the assistance of the very resistance she worked to help.
Reaching her apartment building, Madeleine rushed up the stairs to her floor, only to freeze when she saw a familiar face waiting for her. With confusion on her face, Madeleine let them inside the apartment only to find out that her time had come. Today. It was a warning, they were rounding up people in her building to ârelocateâ to a more appropriate area, those who had received notice... of which, apparently, Madeleine was one with such a notice. Everyone in the resistance knew that relocation meant deportation, and deportation led to unknown horrors, of which nobody had actual knowledge of but everyone had heard rumors about. All they knew was that once people left, they did not return. With her fellow resistance member in her apartment, a quick plan was hatched. They would take some of her essentials to their own apartment to hold for her, mainly clothes, and some valuables. In turn, Madeleine would need to leave and get somewhere safe before curfew.
Time was running short, leaving her friend behind, Madeleine thought over her options. There were other resistance members, but none could help her find a place to hide. None, except one person she knew might be able to find her a safe place. A man with connections, and an uncanny ability to operate without being caught. Madeleine tried to look as calm and innocent as possible as she made her way through the city to Maxâs club, having been there before for the resistance. When she arrived, her heart was racing trying to think of what she might say when she saw him, only to find herself face to face with Max, and blurting out words without thought. âI didnât know where else to go, but I need help. Iâm sorry to come to you... you have more than enough to deal with, but if I go back home then Iâll be sent away by them. Itâs not safe there.â There was no need to explain who âthemâ was as he would know she meant the Nazis. Whether Max could help her, she wasnât sure, but she knew that he was really her only hope or she would need to survive on her own wits.
