FFXIV Class Knowledge: Charging Thunder
Thunder has made martial skill her focus in life, with everything else often falling to the wayside. She begain training with spears, swords, and bows early in life, receiving her first bow on her 6th birthday. As she grew older, Charging experimented and learned different martial disciplines, and found she favoured a few.
Gladiator || Paladin: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
While admitting sword and shield is a highly effective weapon, it lacks the sort of offensive firepower she craves, so while she trains with a sword and board frequently for the sake of versatility, Thunder lacks a soulstone to become a full-fledged paladin.
Marauder || Warrior: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
The axe is the weapon that Thunder fell in love with. Axes are slow, heavy, and often unwieldy to use for the unskilled, but for those with the massive amount of strength needed to use one effectively, they can be devastating weapons.
Thunder witnessed a childhood hero use one in battle when she was young, and the raw power he demonstrated was unlike anything she had ever seen.
It was a power to right wrongs, to make her own way, to protect her and her loved ones, and to do so with enough force to make sure the ones who threatened would never come back.
This is the only job Thunder possesses a soulstone for, and it was passed down to her by her grandfather.
Dark Knight: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder finds the broadsword to be halfway between the axe and a sword- more versatile than the axe, but lacking the same destructive power. She is adept with the use of such weapons, but lacks the soulstone to truly be a dark knight.
Pugilist || Monk: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder often uses hand to hand combat as a way to meditate and center her thoughts, and as a result, it’s her most favoured discipline aside from warrior. She has no monk soulstone, however, though she’s been keeping an eye open for one for years. There is doubt in the back of her mind that even if she did get a soulstone, she’s not sure she’d be able to perform many of the monk’s famed aether-based techniques, as her control over her aether is practically nonexistant at best.
Lancer || Dragoon: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Although familiar with rudimentary spear techniques from training as a child, Thunder mostly only uses them to hunt boar and other wildlife when an arrow will not do.
Rogue || Ninja: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder is not even a little bit sneaky and is of the opinion that ‘knife fighting is for edgelords.’
Samurai: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder is unfamiliar with katanas but has been getting lessons from her wife, Kyojin. She appreciates the skill and dedication it takes to wield one, but is easily frustrated by the decorum of doman-style training, so her progress is slow-going. Thunder does not possess a job stone for samurai.
Archer || Bard: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
As previously stated. Thunder’s first weapon was a bow, so she has been training with them since childhood and is a good shot. Her ability to perform some of the more advanced techniques or trick shots, however, is dubious. In an actual skirmish, especially.
Machinist: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
She understands how to work basic tech, but grows frustrated with it quickly and finds no skill in using firearms, nor does she have the patience to service and reload one.
Charging was born to a family steeped in the mystic customs of the Hellsguard, and like her brothers and sister was expected to follow in those footsteps and become a thaumaturge herself. Despite years of work and study, Thunder was never able to produce more than a wisp of flame, and so as an adolescent gave up on the study of magic entirely to pursue a martial path, even though there was (and is) nothing wrong with her personal aether; it remains at an average level.
Conjurer || White Mage : Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
A deep-seated need to protect and help loved ones means that white magic interests Thunder the most, but she assumes because she has no skill with black magic, she would have no skill with white magic either and so has never tried learning it.
Arcanist || Scholar || Summoner: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Reading is ‘the worst,’ and any time Thunder sits down to try it will find her aching to get up and do something ‘actually worth doing’ within ten minutes of starting. Reading coupled with magic? Hard no. ‘Who the fuck takes a book to a fight?’
Astrologian: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder is aware that sharlayan astrology can sometimes be employed to heal, but her experience with it mostly entails having her fortune read.
Thaumaturge || Black Mage: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
If there is any disciple of magic job that Thunder has actually had any experience with, it’s thaumaturgy. She can’t cast any kind of thunder, fireball, or ice, but she can conjure a small lick of flame (for a short moment, on a good day, after years of practice and hard study).
Red Mage: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
She has only recently learned red magic is a thing, and does not know how to use a rapier. Her opinion of rapiers is that they are ‘goofy play weapons for children and milksop nobles.’
Thunder’s hands are large, calloused and clumsy where most things are concerned, and she’s never taken the time to really learn any tradeskills beyond the ones needed to wage war.
Culinarian: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder has recently taken an interest in cooking as a hobby, and often spends her evenings off following cookbook recipes. Most of the time these turn out subpar, but she improves all the time and may one day be a cook worth her salt.
A knowledge of the wilderness comes in very handy while hunting and camping, two of Thunder’s favourite activities, so she’s had to become at least a little familiar with some of these.
Miner: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder has some passing knowledge of geology and is generally able to recognize different rock types in cliff faces and the like, but that’s where her knowledge ends.
Botanist: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Thunder possesses a fairly respectable knowledge of various plants found in the wild as well as their practical uses. She has also been a hobby gardener for many years and greatly enjoys puttering around in her front yard. She’s familiar (although not all that skilled) with advanced techniques such as grafting and breeding, and has been learning about the art of bonsai.
Fisher: Unskilled | Novice | Adept | Expert | Master
Fishing is a pastime Thunder tends to enjoy, though she does it mostly out of necessity while camping and doesn’t usually make trips just for the sake of it. She finds the complexities of different lures too complicated and gets frustrated very easily with their tiny size, usually ending up with hooks in her fingers rather than in the fish. She greatly enjoys the challenge of spearfishing, however.
