So I had to sit a think for a bit how this au would work exactly. Nobody ever said anything about the Laurena situation, so I’m assuming that nobody particularly wanted to cross the Lestranges openly. What if a mid-wife conspires to free Laurena from her imprisonment, and so when she gives birth, manages to convince an already un-inversted Corvus that she has died in childbirth?

As everyone is still scared to openly cross this powerful family or find out what would happen to them all if Corvus discovered the deception, Laurena must be hidden from the world for many months, imperious curse now lifted as Corvus Lestrange believes she is dead. In this time, Mustafa Kama still goes insane with grief and deterioates very quickly, leading to his death and swearing a young Yusuf to avenge the family.

When Laurena is eventually, hesitantly, allowed more freedom she is distraught to find that her husband has died in he absence, but she is determined to get to her son. She manages to get a secretive message to him and arranges to meet him in the shadows, where he swears not to leave her side again. Laurena is horrified to learn about the vow he has taken and that is what really sets it: she will not only get revenge on Corvus for ruining her life and that of her family, but she will take on this burden so that her young son does not have to.

Corvus Lestrange was prepared for wizard attacks, for ancient family wizarding feuds or people seeking his influence and power and wealth. He was not expecting an attack to come in such a non-magique way; Corvus Lestrange was not prepared to have his throat slit unceremoniously in the night by an angry mother and widow and victim who had planned her revenge since she had been freed from his influence.

Baby Leta is gathered as quickly as possible, and Clarisse is told to stay quiet unless she wants to join her late husband. What they do not expect is the brief look of satisfaction Clarisse gives the body, before pleading for them to allow her to escape with her. After all, her powerful husband lays dead not long after their marriage, and no one would ever believe her that a dead woman from a dead family had been the one to take her life. And even if they did, she has no desire to be pawned off by her family onto another cold man who wanted nothing more than a trophy and a womb. In the end, they begrudgingly allow her to come with. It is tentative between them for a very long time; Clarisse is also from the Lestrange family, and is not to be trusted.
