Time for a Clapotis update!
It's coming along quite nicely; it's reached the point where I have the stitch pattern memorized enough to mostly not need to look at the pattern page. So I can just keep knitting along and periodically dropping a stitch ladder the way Rook slides down the DA4 ladders XD (i.e why yes, I am knitting this during all the cutscenes while I play Veilguard! Getting plenty done that way!)

Huh, I just learned that the Clapotis scarf, which is apparently twenty years old, is having a celebratory event. (I keep wanting to call it Clafoutis, only that's something else entirely.)
I've never knit a Clapotis, and probably never will. However, by some strange coincidence, I have been knitting an interminable scarf with a drop-stitch pattern.
The stitch pattern I'm using is based on Mini Bubbles by Kieran Foley, only I've modified it to be reversible. The result is a lot like 3D Bubbles, but with some additional complications.
Clapotis but scarf-shaped
I got the yarn for this at least 8 years ago - one of those "omg so pretty" single skein purchases. (Berroco Boboli Lace, which is now discontinued.) Finally decided to just go with a simple pattern to show off the colors. and here we are!
My only real mod to the pattern was not increasing as much at the start. I also did the to-be-dropped columns as purls so it was easier to read my knitting.
The pattern suggests not blocking, but ...

The Finger, Spin
is improving. The original postop dressing worked its way off (thank goodness – it was so big and bulky!) so Mr. iknead wrapped it again for me. This time it was just right – not too big and not too tight or too loose.

IT HAS BEGUN.
(I have officially started knitting the shawl pattern of my dreams with the yarn of my dreams. IT WILL BE MINE. Probably the most exciting thing I got for my birthday, ngl.)
Here's a picture of the progress so far. It's fascinating to see how the vareigated colors change. I'm a little ways into section 3 of the instructions and just attached the second skein.
It's looking great! Always so exciting when you get to those first dropped stitch columns and see how they interact with the variegation :-D
I love seeing your progress and it's reminding me that I ought to get pictures of my Clapotis-in-progress too...maybe I can get to that today!
I have cast on a Clapotis for the 2024 Clapotisfest over at Knitty! Very nostalgic, since as far as I can remember my 2006 Clapotis (!) was the very first thing I logged on my Ravelry account and I have worn that scarf/shawl so much in the 18 (!) years since then. Looking forward to having another one out of this scrumptious red/pink/grey yarn from Sheep to Shawl! (a colorway that's out of stock now but one skein is 620 yd/4 oz so we'll just make as big a Clapotis as I can with that one skein...That's more yarn than I'd need for socks anyway, so the skein is better suited for a cute little shawl, I guess)
I'm following the tip in the updated '24 version of the pattern to purl (and knit on the other side) the column of stitches that will end up getting dropped and laddered down, so that's what will happen later with the 1-stitch column you see sticking up out of the background in several places. Easy to spot it that way without needing the stitch markers.
Any knitters out there that haven't ever knit a Clapotis (I assume there are some of you out there, even though twenty years ago it was like the most viral knitting pattern on the internet and we were all apparently knitting a Clap :-D), now is a great time to try it out! It's delightful in variegated yarns or gradients, and pretty easy to customize to various scarf/shawl sizes. You can see lots of examples at Clapotisfest Central!
