The European Medicines Agency has approved cladribine (brand name Mavenclad) for use with multiple sclerosis.

Sounds like fun, right?  This summarizes my past 3 days as I prepare to begin treatment at NIH for relapsed Hairy Cell Leukemia.  This is my shorthand for blood draws, bone marrow samples and central line insertions.  It no spa experience, I can assure you.

After rounds of Cladribine (current chemo-based standard of care) in 2002 and 2007, I am now eligible to participate in a Phase 3 clinical trial under the direction of Dr. Robert Kreitman.  It’s been a bumpy past 12 months as my blood counts have been moving in and out of the treatment zone.  After some false starts and a change in my study location, I am now at the right time and place to begin the process.

I’ll be referring to this in my subsequent postings as “Moxe and Me” in reference to the nearly unpronounceable medication name, “Moxetumomab Pasudotox.”  Perhaps the study sponsor, MedImmune, would care to buy the rights to this pithy little title?  I’ve always secretly wanted to be in sales and marketing...  My luck it already is under license and their corporate legal department will be serving me cease and desist papers shortly.  :-(
