Crime 101
A slow-burn crime thriller that’s more tension than action.
Since the film is still pretty fresh, I’m keeping details to a minimum. No spoilers, obviously.
I liked it. And I really liked the ending.
My friend didn’t though. Like, at all. And that’s kinda the fun part. Two people, same movie, totally different reactions.
The cast is seriously strong. Even the smaller roles are stacked. Paul Adelstein’s in it, most people know him from Prison Break, and he’s playing an asshole again 😂
Nick Nolte, Jennifer Jason Leigh, all great.
Chris Hemsworth looks good as always. Yeah, I said it. And he actually does a really solid job too. Way calmer and more grounded than you might expect.
Mark Ruffalo is always steady for me. I found him the most believable as the cop. He was calm, focused, and authentic.
Barry Keoghan and Halle Berry also deliver. No weak links.
But the movie is too long. You could probably cut about 30 minutes. It spends a lot of time on Davis as a character and on Lou’s work issues. Did it need to be that detailed? Not really. A little more trust in the audience would’ve helped.
If you’re into slow, quiet storytelling with a smart plot and very little action, this one works. If you expect a faster pace, you’ll probably start shifting in your seat at some point.
Solid for me. With a strong ending.
