Hunters
Hunters, or hunting churls, are the equivalent to warriors in canon WC. They hunt for the shire, hence their name, and are also generally the best trained in combat. Patrols are usually made of at least half hunters so that no patrol goes into the territory unprotected.
Hunter is the default churl position for apprentices who have no strong opinion on what path they wish to take.

Trailblazers (Thundershire Only)
Trailblazers are a specialized rank within Thundershire that makes and maintains the paths around their dense forest territory. Paths are needed for efficient travel due to the thick brush within their lands. These trails allow cats to travel faster and easier, without running the risk of injury due to the unpredictable nature of the forest. Trailblazers go on semi-frequent patrols for path maintenance, and keep an eye out for new trail locations while out on their day to day activities. Trailblazers always have two jobs, usually being a hunter or roamer in addition to a trailblazer.
Artisans
Artisans are the creatives of the shire. They craft tools, accessories, bandaging, and other materials needed in day to day life. They also maintain dens around the territory. Artisans are the best with their paws (and claws and teeth) and are remarkably coordinated with unmatched fine motor skills.
In Skyfall, the cats are able to craft basic items, including pottery, tanned skins, and parchment-esque materials. They are skilled in weaving, basic painting, and sculpting. This results in a culture of cats that value art moreso than the canonical clans.
Shadowshire and Rivershire in particular are enamored with creative talent and tend to produce the most complex and beautiful pieces of art. The other shires tend to encourage their artisans to focus on everyday materials rather than intricate crafts.
Roamers
Roamers wander beyond the shire territories, searching for resources or simply scouting so that the shires can learn more about the world they inhabit. They also go throughout the territory, replenishing the artisans' and physicians' supplies.
Roamers are some of the most knowledgeable cats when it comes to those living beyond shire territories. They are familiar with multiple cat dialects (some can even speak dog, fox, etc.) and generally have friends and connections beyond the shires. They use these connections to develop alliances or trade relationships with outsider groups. This is how the shires get their paws on cloth, a very valuable material for artisans and physicians (used for blankets, bandages, etc).
Roamers spend a large amount of their time traveling, often times being gone for weeks. Because of this, they tend not to take mates or to only mate within their rank. It is also not unheard of for roamers to take outsider mates (this is actually quite common, but it is an unspoken rule within the roamers to not bring this up as much back home, since it is sometimes received poorly by shire leadership). If an outsider or outsider kittens join a shire, it is very likely they are the mate and/or kits of a roamer.
Sentinels (Rivershire Only)
Sentinels are trained to watch weather patterns and look for geological signs of incoming floods or rockslides, both of which are common on Rivershire territory. They go on regular patrols around the territory, checking for danger signs and then reporting back to the thegn and reeve. Sentinels are usually from the hunter churl rank, but can be from any rank. There are usually 2-3 sentinels in Rivershire at a time.

Caregivers
Caregivers are the equivalent of perma-queens and den dads in canon WC. They care of the young of the shire, regardless of whether they are kin or not. Caregivers help cats give birth, recover, and care for their kittens as they grow up. Most kittens are communally raised by the caregivers alongside their parents, giving parents the ability to return to their roles should they want or need to. It also gives them a break from the constant work that is raising a litter. The shires very much believe in community rearing of kittens.
Caregivers teach kittens the basics of shire life: the Shire Code, fundamental hunting techniques, folktales, and the Shining Paws. Caregivers are in many ways the teachers of the shire, serving as a cat's first mentor before their apprenticeship. Because of this, many cats within the shire will have very close ties to their caregivers and mentors alongside their parents.
Keepers
Keepers maintain the oral tradition of the shire cats. They are master storytellers who entertain and advise using their knowledge of folklore and shire history. They work closely with the scribes, checking their stories against older recounting of the events to ensure the most accurate picture possible (which generally means the story is based on a truth, but has significant creative liberties).
Keepers often speak with the elders, learning new tales from them. They also spend time with the kittens, telling them stories to both educate and entertain. Keepers are the soul of the shire, maintaining both the legacy of their ancestors and the morale of their living kin.
Daylight Warrior (Churl, Modern Skyshire Only)
Daylight warriors are housecats that serve the shire during the day and then return to their homes at night. During Skyshire’s time at the gorge, they were an important part of rebuilding the precarious shire. At the lake, they are still a valued part of the community. Other shires sometimes judge Skyshire for their comtinued practice of allowing housecats to serve them but not leave their homes. To this, Skyshire points to the many great churls they have had that were daylight churls. Daylight churls can serve in any role beyond the Guilded Churls (Physician, Priest, Mortician, Scribe, Mediator) and the top leadership (Thegn, Reeve). These roles require a cat to be present within the territory at all times in case they are needed. Typically, daylight churls serve as hunters, caregivers, or artisans.
