I love a sensitive teacherly type......who tends sheep and respects women and the indigenous populations?? HE'S CUTE OK HE DRINKS HIS RESPECT JUICE EVERY MORNING but forgets the muffin so he doesn't faint from excitement

Also it's my theory that he just disarmed everyone of of their weapons Jedi style and that freaked everyone out while he was just chillin full of the power of God

i feel like the lord does the best he can with what he has to work with. he can’t give us perfection because we’re not perfect and nowhere close to being ready for perfection. so he whispers where he can about what he can because like there’s an agreement there. and the agreement is we get free will but the tradeoff there is that he can only do so much. he has left his own hands tied for our benefit even if this means we suffer dearly

honestly, not to call the leadership out because like they ARE the prophets (even if they aren’t like THE leader) but they’re wrong about queer issues full stop. like they were wrong about black men. the lord didn’t abandon the church but he directed his efforts toward what our bigotry allowed him to control

do notice, though, that we have CONSISTENTLY been told “don’t exclude others, be kind” and the church has CONSISTENTLY been like “you mean only people like us right?” and we’ve gotten “be kind??? to everyone” which was met with “oh so us then!” and it’s like “I SAID EVERYONE I KEEP SAYING EVERYONE I SAID THIS IN THE BIBLE I SAID THIS IN THE BOOK OF MORMON AND I’M SAYING IT NOW BE NICE TO EVERYONE” so like imo that’s pretty telling. we keep getting the same guidance and doctrine and advice because we aren’t even following what we do have

anyway i got off on a long response and didn’t mean to. just as somebody who prays by looking up and mouthing “thank you” when something difficult is solved, or my unemployed roommate gets a job and receives back a warm, fuzzy “you’re welcome” or has literally yelled out “WHAT THE FUCK, DAD!?” on more than one occasion and gotten varied responses depending on the circumstances, there is a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding so much culture that just isn’t doctrine

i had a friend once tell me that they learned in seminary something about the holocaust being punishment for the wickedness of the people during the 40 years in the wilderness in exodus. that idea super rubbed me the wrong way, and these verses are the perfect reason why. The Lord loves His children and remembers the wrongs done to them, and will return those things upon the heads of the wrongdoers.

It’s also interesting to consider that when “they” (the general public, society, and government) received the “new Bible” (the Book of Mormon), they had the same reaction–they reviled and cursed the early Latter-day Saints. I know a lot has been said about the fact that members of the Church have a lot in common with persecuted members of other religions, but even then we have so much more in common than we realize. It’s not a matter of “members and nonmembers”, or “the One True Church and all those other misguided religions”; we’re literally just all siblings going through the same things. There is absolutely no reason for any sort of division among us.
