Chrysolina Americana aka Rosemary Beetle
They may be ruining my rosemary, but they look so good doing it.
These little jewels are mostly present around Mediterranean areas and some parts of Africa and Asia. Basically they have nothing to do with America and somebody fucked up.
Chrysolina, alternatively known as Chrysomela (both extremely cute names imo), is mostly a harmless bug except for its host plants. It is a very hated pest, as it tends to target aromatic plants like rosemary, thyme, and lavender. Personally, I think they should get a pass given how nice they look and how well behaved they are otherwise, as little gentle non-flying beetles.
They come in hues of green and red/purple, but sometimes their shiny elytra can look blue as well.

Chrysomela scripta “Cottonwood Leaf Beetle” Chrysomelidae

These lovely beetles can spend their entire life cycles living off of a single poplar or cottonwood tree. Females lay their eggs in clusters on the undersides of leaves. Those eggs hatch and the larvae begin feeding on the leaf tissues until nothing but a skeleton of veins remains. Then, they pupate into adults which will continue the process of defoliating the tree by eating the thick veins and midribs left behind by the larvae. Some small saplings can be killed by a particularly hungry population of breeding Cottonwood Leaf Beetles. This species may not be present in the PNW west of the Cascades.
