OOOOHHH @alex-wolfdragon got me on some allergy brain worms for Boyfriend!Papyrus so everyone say THANK YOU ALEX
Everyone knows Paps loves to cook.
Cooking is his love language, and after having spent many years on the surface learning the hard way and through many meetings with the fire department that setting the kitchen on fire is NOT the way to cook with 'Passion', he's improved a lot since settling in.
He's got an entire bookcase dedicated to the different types of pasta dishes humans have created through love and tradition over the years. The pantry is always stocked with tons of different kinds of flour and ingredients, and Sans got him a pasta machine two years ago that remains out on the counter for him to make big batches on Sundays to put into the freezer.
He's learned how to make ravioli, small pasta, lasagna, different types of noodle from the long ones to short and cute little bowties. It's meditative, and honestly, Papyrus has always loved working with his hands.
So imagine his absolute horror when you come over for the first time Papyrus offers to cook you both a meal, and he slides the fresh plate of his best spahgetti over with a thick meat sauce draped across the top of the fresh noodles, and he watches your expression fall at the sight of his food.
"O-Oh, Stars, is it not—" He's scrambling, standing up from his chair so fast it nearly topples over. His soul has dropped into his coccyx, worried that out of all the humans he had to fall in love with, he fell for one that didn't like spaghetti. "Do you not like it!? I can make something else—I didn't even think to ask—"
"No no no! Paps, it's fine!" You quickly hold your hands up, mortified and apologetic. You can't believe you'd forgotten to say something, but work had been absolute hell on you this week. "I mean, technically it's not fine, but it's my fault. I should've warned you. I just...can't have gluten."
Papyrus blinks.
"You...what?"
"Gluten, which is...most pasta and grains," You sigh, rubbing your arm sheepishly, guilt threading in since he'd gone so far out of his way to cook and you couldn't touch it. "I have something called Celiac Disease, which means my immune system gets triggered by gluten. To most people, gluten is just food, but for a Celiac patient, our immune system thinks gluten is an enemy, and kicks into attack mode, and it attacks the small intestine. I basically get...really sick if I eat it. I'm sorry. I should've warned you. All those other places I picked for our dates had safe options that I'd gotten used to going to and I forgot to mention it..."
Papyrus looks at you.
Then at the plate of spaghetti he made.
And the back at you.
"OH MY GOD—"
He swings his hand out like divine judgement, slapping the completely full plate away from you like it's poison, and in this case it may as well be. It crashes against the far cabinet in a spectacular spray of pasta, sauce, and glass. You let out a startled yelp, jumping in the chair as you watch it shatter.
"PAPYRUS WHAT THE FUCK—"
"I ALMOST POISONED MY DATE MATE," He wails, already moving across the table to scoop you up out of the chair and whisk you away from the kitchen, which has become enemy number ONE until he can decontaminate it. "THE SPAGHETTI IS POISON! IT'S ALL POISON!"
"Papyrus oh my god, no, it's okay—" You're trying very hard not to laugh or maybe cry at his wasted efforts as he scoops you up princess style in his arms (was he always this strong? Oh my god) and is hauling you away like the kitchen is on fire. "I should have told you—oh no, Paps, your food! You worked so hard on that! Our date—"
"WILL BE COMEPLETELY FINE AND BE CONTINUING IN THE LIVING ROOM!" He declares and completely ignores your protesting, setting you down gently on the furthest point on the couch from the kitchen entryway. "NOW YOU WILL SIT, I WILL GO CLEAN THE KITCHEN AND WASH MY HANDS, AND WE WILL ORDER FOOD SAFE DELIVERY, AND THEN YOU WILL TELL ME EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR CONDITION AND WHAT WE CAN DO INSTEAD!"
"But Paps—at least let me help since I was the one who—"
"NO BUTS!" He's already moving back to the kitchen like a man on a mission. "UNLESS IT IS YOURS! ON THAT COUCH! UNTIL I RETURN!"
Papyrus spends the next thirty minutes cleaning the entire kitchen like it's a crime scene. He wipes everything down twice, takes the pasta and sauce and put it into labeled and sealed containers in the fridge, washes his hands twice, and by the end of it, there's not a single trace of the food that he'd made remaining.
The next hour is spent...really, surprisingly well actually. For both of you.
Papyrus absorbs information like a sponge, treating your disease exactly what it is, which was a mild to sometimes severe disability that could be a real danger to your health if you didn't check things properly. It meant you had to be careful with everything you ate, showing him the sensor kit from your bag that you'd had to pay for out of pocket and the test capsules for each little test, checking your foods to ensure it was safe.
Papyrus, all the while, is making sure to memorize every bit, having grabbed a small notebook and jotting down everything you tell him like a man devoting himself to a new religion.
Despite your fears, and your guilt for having not explained sooner, Papyrus isn't deterred at ALL.
In fact, this skeleton is absolutely thrilled and utterly focused, because what you've done is given him a puzzle that he can explore and simultaneously take care of you with.
Certain brands are off the table, while you give him ones he'd never even heard of before. This opens up a whole world of new dishes he can make, or even old ones, just adjusted to ensure they're ones you can enjoy too. It doesn't mean you can't ever eat any pasta, or his sauces, he just has to make sure to use the right ingredients, and if there's one thing this man takes more seriously than catching MTTV at 6PM, it's getting cooking done right, especially for his one and only date mate.
By the end of it, Papyrus has filled up about twelve pages in his notebook, you're both eating sushi from your favorite place downtown, getting a chance to demonstrate your kit to him as you dab the sensor all over the top of the food, waiting for the smiley face to pop up and confirming it's all safe to eat, and Papyrus is practically vibrating on the couch in excitement.
He's going to go shopping, do a full overhaul of the kitchen and pantry, and make about twenty different test dishes that you WILL be trying. And, of course, he's already ordered more capsules for your testing kit, and one to keep here at the house for you, just in case.
Not that he's told you that yet, not because it's a surprise, but because to him, having something medically necessary isn't a gift or an announcement to make.
It's just something you need, like how everyone needs shoes or clothes or basic amenities. You don't announce to a room that you have forks and plates. Those are just...things that should be in a house in order for people to eat with, just like your kit is something you need to eat with. Therefore, it WILL be in this house for you, any time.
Papyrus loves to cook, and if there are rules he needs to follow, well...in his eyes, that just makes it easier to navigate with clear instructions.
Which is why he's got twelve YouTube videos tabbed and Reddit threads saved about how to make his own homemade gluten free pasta and various dishes.
Because Papyrus doesn't just love cooking.
He loves the act of sharing that cooking with the people he loves.
So...if you couldn't eat it with him, then there was no point in stepping into a kitchen at all.
He cannot wait to go shopping tomorrow.
again, these are based on some of my experiences, but everyone’s different || T/W: hospitals, pain, & med mention

He figured it out pretty quick — while you don't want your chronic illness to define you, the people who know you will definitely know and Peter catches on pretty darn quick, maybe it's the "spider-sense." When you found out you were a little afraid he might not be as interested because sometimes situations and symptoms aren't always pretty or fun, and at times they're barely manageable. Yet, his response to you asking if he really wanted to get into it after figuring it out was shocking. "I love you," he stated, "and that's always going to be a part of you, right? So, I don't see it as anything more than a part of you, good days and bad days, I'll still love you. If you'll still love me, Spiderman and all." With a kiss to his cheek you smile, "it's always going to be a part of you, and I love you, so looks like we're stuck together."
Pick-ups — Peter is great at picking stuff up for you. If there’s anything you need that would help ease the pain / symptoms, the moment you mention it Peter is on it. // When you’re hanging out in his room, the moment you comment “I should have brought that with me-“ Peter’s jumping up and suiting up. “Why not just walk to the store?” You ask curiously, “I’ll be faster this way!” he says with a smile. “But you really think it’ll look very superhero of you if you get-“ / “I don’t care what other people think about what I’m getting, if it’ll help you, it’s always worth it.”
Staying home after a flare — Peter’s really cool about staying home. Since he’s not “mr popular” at school he’s a-okay with not being a part of every single activity at school, in fact he’s a bit of a homebody himself. You two spend time playing old Atari video games while Aunt May makes some snacks for the two of you while you attempt to beat him in asteroids. He also shows you all the cool tech for his suit and how he’s adjusting it / making upgrades. Sometimes Ned also comes over and you all work on a Lego collection together.
↳ Peter 100% lets you try out his spider-man gear when you’re having a down day. Sometimes he brings stuff to your room, like the mask and he lets you talk to Karen or he even brings the IronSpider and lets you se all the cool stuff inside, the different settings, modes etc. You've tried out the web-shooters a few times, but found it was incredibly hard to get off the walls and it just became a nightmare when you accidentally hit the ceiling fan.
Carry you — if you’re feeling fatigue Peter aways offers to carry you, no matter where you are or the situation. This includes swinging through downtown to get somewhere faster, or simply carrying you up the apartment stairs because a symptom hit you out of nowhere. Sometimes when you don't want to draw as much attention to the fact that you need some help, he'll just hook an arm through yours and let you support yourself against him; in other settings, like of trips and walks, he'll give you a piggy-back ride.
Medication reminders — you're pretty sure Peter has your medications down better than you do. He knows where you keep them at your place, where you keep them when you come over, and where he keeps an extra few in case you forget to bring it. He's also like clock-work if you have a pill-taking schedule. No matter what you're doing he gently reminds you that you should take your medicine, something that always shocks you is he doesn't say it in a condescending tone, he makes it sound totally normal, which helps you feel more comfortable with having to take a break and take something when need be.
He’s very sympathetic — while he doesn't know how the exact pain or symptoms feel, he knows what it's like to have different and unique things going on that no one else understands. That's a reason he always wants to be there for you, even if you just want to vent about the fact that you feel like no one sees your pain half the time, unless it's a major emergency, which then of course, when you don't want people to know, everyone seems to know and ask about it. Peter wants you to know that it’s a safe space to vent and talk about your feelings and how your feeling, even if it’s the same as you felt yesterday.
Doctor's appointments — Peter gets really nervous when you go to the doctor, he wants to be there, but knows he can’t always be there. However, he loves texting you while you’re in the waiting room, anything to keep your mind a little distracted while waiting. He’s a big fan of Snapchat, which results in some retry hilarious distractions for yourself. // You almost always call or FaceTime him with the results or just how the appointment went when you’re done.
Hospital visits — Aunt May and Peter visit you a lot when you're in the hospital. Aunt May brings you your favourite snacks and always makes sure to bring blankets, pillows, and anything else to make the room feel a little more like home. Peter also brings some familiar stuff, but most of all he just wants to spend time with you. He hates the idea of you being alone just waiting around for someone to come keep you company.
↳ in fact he hates the idea of you being alone so much that he's asked if he can stay overnight with you. The hospital says no, because he's not of age or relation status to do so. However, that doesn't stop him. After nightfall, Peter will scale the side of the hospital, find your room, and come in through the window. Naturally he brought his backpack with him, containing an extra blanket and pillow. Those nights are the best, because you wind up falling asleep in his arms. And even though the doctor give supi a weird look and asks if you had that hoodie on last night, it’s total worth it.
Lots and lots of affection — Peter loves doting on you physically, he wants you to know that you are loved and that you’re beautiful, no matter what your pain, flares, and bad days look like, you are loveable! He always greets you with a hug and loves holding your hand. He loves cuddling you or being cuddled by you, he’s a-okay with you being more dominant in the cuddle department, he just likes being close to you and feeling you near him. Other times when you want to be held he is absolutely going to comfort and cuddle the heck out of you—
↳ Peter’s dedicated to you, he’s in it for the long haul, so if that means cradling you because your shaking on the bathroom floor unsure of how your flare is going to behave to sitting with you (or outside and just beside you) while you take a bath, or staying with you in bed because you’re too tired, or hanging out on the sofa where you’ve made camp for the weekend, etc. He just wants to be with you.
Breaks — Din's learned to take it a little bit slower from time to time. Being constantly on the go can be hard on you and when he realises you're lagging behind a bit and you've already said you're fine twice, Din knows it's time to take a break. This applies no matter where you are. When you're out on a planet's surface, he'll either find some shelter for you or he'll make it, no matter what. When you try and tough it out by asking "why are we stopping?" Din just sighs and says in all seriousness "needed a break, I'm not as tough as you." You breathe, relaxed that you're getting a rest, "okay, you're the boss here." and sit next to him, resting yourself against his shoulder. Din says nothing to make you feel like he stopped because of you.
On planet accommodations — Din tries to set up arrangements outside of the Crest when you're on planet. For example, he tries to find Inns more often for you to stay at while he's on a mission on the planet. He's also started to pack more provisions, he's learned that just the bare minimum isn't best for 2 people, so in a way having you around has also helped him prepare more for himself too.
Caring for you — Din is phenomenal at taking care of you. When you start having symptom flares, Din doesn't bombard you with a a ton of questions or freak out because he doesn't understand, he asks calm, direct questions like: "what do you need?" / "where/how can I help?" & "what isn't helping?" (so he can try and minimize flare triggers) Din will do anything he can for you, and that includes backing out of a mission to stay with you. He knows his priorities and you're his number one.
↳ he can be helpful in literally lending a hand, arm or whatever you need for support to make it back to your encampment. He also subtly reminds you of things that will help when you're starting to have a flare or episode, yet he never acts like he knows more about it than you. Din just tries to avoid mentioning the negatives and instead tries to give the positive solution when he can. "I can get your medicine for you, if it'll help," he'll say when he sees you beginning to shut down a little more from the effects.
Medical bays — sometimes you need a check-in, and that usually results in a medical bay requiring you to stay a few days, telling you: “you can’t handle such a fast pace, inconsistent, lifestyle.” Din feels guilty for keeping you on the run all the time, but he’s reminded of your amazing strength when you look the doctor in the eye and say “it’s my life and this is my choice.” Din doesn’t see any need to try and tell you what’s best for you in this case, as he believes that you know you what's best. When you look to him for assurance or an opinion, he's more than willing to give it, but only by invitation from you. (Unless it's an extreme case and he needs to step in and defend / help you)
↳ Din stays as long as he can with you, but he still needs to keep up on the bounty runs, seeing as that's the only means of making some money for him right now. Sometimes, he leaves Grogu with you, if he knows it's going to be a long stay / recovery process for you; he wants you to have some company while he's gone. Other times when you don't have to stay at a medical bay, but you just have to stay in the Crest, Din definitely leaves Grogu with you.
Holograms — Din still wants to take you everywhere with him, so when you can't be there he tries to contact you through his mobile hologram device. Almost always, unless you’re resting, you answer from the Crest or the medical bay. He's gotten one or two strange looks from locals when you ask him to get a little closer to the cute creatures of the planet, but he doesn't care. He wants to see your smile and he'll do whatever it takes to bring a smile to your face.
Wishes he could do more — Din is the type of guy who silently wishes he could do more for you. Since he knows he can't he doesn't go around complaining that he can't help you, he keeps it to himself. Except for the times when you can really tell something's on his mind and when you ask all he says in a voice more hoarse than usual: "are you sure there's nothing more I can do?"
