Jeremiah and Christopher are basically Marian and Anne smh

(Anne is absolutely a better person than Christopher but the two pairs of siblings have the same dynamic)

Jeremiah and Marian:

-overshadowed by Anne and Christopher -appear less intelligent than Anne and Christopher, or at least less confident in the business domain -appear less confident in general than their siblings -incapable of taking some crucial initiatives without their siblings -way better at being mundane in the classical way than their siblings -A W K W A R D -trying to me more “moral” than their siblings -not taking risks

Christopher and Anne:

-bitches and bastards -won’t let anyone tell them what to do -dangerous -impressive -lucid on people’s weaknesses -take high risks with sometimes an overconfidence that plays against them -social skills more than mundane skills -take decisions against their sibling’s wishes

Christopher is chaotic evil. Jeremiah is lawful evil at best

Christopher treats the fact Anne is homosexual like an opportunity to act against her. After stealing her coal. Not even stealing it himself, no, convincing his brother to do so. It’s such asshole move in so many ways, especially coming from someone whose work is the law. 

Jeremiah on the other hand, when receiving the confirmation Anne is homosexual, just looks?? annoyed??? tired?

idk I can’t tell but he doesn’t lighten up at all, he’s just

what does this face even mean. is he annoyed homosexuality is mentioned? is it too indecent for him? is he worried about the fact Christopher suggest blackmail bc it’s, once again, something illegal instead of dealing with the problem legally? 

I really can’t tell but this is not the face of a chaotic person. He’s actually so lawful people don’t entirely associate him with his brother’s misbehavior.  

Oh yeah, because:

Everyone talks about the Rawson brothers like they’re the worst and then immediately add up “i mean Jeremiah is okayish but CHRISTOPHER’s such an HORRIBLE HUMAN BEING kill it with fire”

every time it’ll be “yeah the two Rawson brothers are awful but heh Jeremiah is not that bad but Christopher is terrible”

i’m sorry but i think it’s hilarious

and i can’t imagine how Jeremiah reacts to that like, is he thinking “thanks God people don’t think i’m like him” and really tries his best to be kind and patient since Christopher isn’t? or is he fed up with this, like “for fuck sake Christopher if you weren’t going around half murdering children maybe people would think i’m a little dangerous myself and not treat me like a dumbass???”

Jeremiah is just... so... polite??? 

The Rawson brothers got this reputation of being thieves, of being hard to deal with in the business, of being scary, and they are generally not flatteringly described. But then Jeremiah is just really acting kind and soft. He shake hands, he stays calm, he chats with Jeremy Lister, he asks how Christopher feels on the first scene he appears... he’s... i just like his attitude

Idk why but I like the fact Jeremiah smokes, it fits his personality. And at the same time it feels off/forced coming from him 

Like, you see this puddle of stress wanting absolutely to hide what he did, to his own family even

you see him scared of Anne, and being crushed by her

You see a man absolutely frightened of having gone through illegal behavior. You see a man not wishing Anne (even if she represents an inconvenience for him) going through anything Christopher is able to do. You even see him warning her against him. Against his own brother.

All of this gives me hint of someone lawful and formal.

aND THEN HE FRIGGING SMOKE. Like. I don’t know for this time historically speaking, but I think smoking is probably considered unpleasant, useless and smh vulgar

And it’s coming from Jeremiah Rawson. The last person I thought I’d see smoke in this show

Christopher Rawson: But first, a few words from our newest member.

I’m sure it was Christopher Rawson and his brother knew nothing about it. This is how this whole thing plays out > In episode 4 Christopher Rawson says – “I’m fast coming to the conclusion that she’s bluffing about sinking her own pits, because how could she possibly afford it?” – his mother then talks about Anne Lister and Ann Walker’s “friendship” saying that maybe Miss Walker will help her get the money she needs – “Well, perhaps her little friend will help her.”

Here is where he gets the idea that AW will lend money to Anne for the coal pit. In episode 5 the Rawson brothers talk about Anne and the coal pit again, Christopher asks how much it would cost her to sink her own pit and Jeremiah says – “2,000. And it is true, what Mother said. Apparently, she’s over at Crow Nest morning, noon, and night. And if she really does have her hand in Ann Walker’s purse, then she could have a pit sunk within six months.“ –

So, again, Anne’s relationship with Ann Walker is directly linked with the coal pit sinking plan and Christopher Rawson knows about it. The scene ends with him saying – “If she wants to start running with the big dogs, then she’s gonna have to find out what it’s like when they really start biting each other.” – And at the end of the episode we have the scene with the thug, and he says:

It seems he’s threatening her because of her personal relationship with AW when in reality that’s just a cover. The obvious meaning of “Leave Miss Walker alone.” is “There are people who know about the real nature of your relationship with Ann Walker and they don’t like it, so stay away from her or things might get ugly for you.” But the real meaning of it is “Stay away from Ann Walker, the Rawsons know you’re getting money from her to sink your pit”. The thug is implying that he (who sent him) knows about Anne’s sexuality, he doesn’t mention the coal pit because that would have directly led to the Rawsons.

In episode 6, when Jeremiah goes to Anne to talk about the coal pit and sees she has a black eye, he is genuinely surprised. He doesn’t know what happened. Anne says – “You wanted to discuss the terms of the lease with me, again. Why? Has your position altered?” – he says – “No, but my brother thought… yours might have.” –

He stops mid-sentence. Right in that moment he makes the connection between Anne “falling off a wall” and why his brother thought her position about the lease had changed. Christopher Rawson knew she was beaten up and threatened because he was the one who hired the thug to do it, that’s why he sends Jeremiah to talk to her about the coal pit.
