Saint Stanislaus Church, Chortkiv
| by Teren
My next post in support of Ukraine is:
Next site, the city of Chortkiv (Чортків), in Ternopil Oblast. It's on the Seret River. The first mention of the city in historical documents is from 1522. It was taken over by the Ottoman Empire during the 17th century for 27 years. It changed hands several times over the centuries, it was part of Austro-Hungary from 1772-1918, except for a short time as part of the "russian" empire from 1809-1815. In 1919, it became part of Poland. It was part of Poland until the soviet union invaded Poland in 1939. It was then annexed by Nazi Germany from 1941-1944. They proceeded to execute and deport many of the Jewish residents of the city. After WWII, the city became part of the soviet union again. In 1991, the city finally became part of free and independent Ukraine.

The Church of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary and St. Stanislaus in Chortkiv
Built at the beginning of the 17th century and rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th, it is one of the most beautiful Roman Catholic churches in Ukraine.
