Enjoy the delightful flavors of crispy, gluten-free, and vegan onion bhaji. These savory fritters are perfect as a snack or appetizer, and they are made with chickpea flour for a gluten-free twist.
Ingredients: 2 cups chickpea flour. 1 tsp ground cumin. 1 tsp ground coriander. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. 1/2 tsp chili powder. 1/2 tsp baking soda. 1 tsp salt. 1 cup water. 2 cups thinly sliced onions. Oil for frying e.g., vegetable or canola.
Instructions: Put ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, chili powder, baking soda, salt, and chickpea flour in a bowl. Add water little by little and mix until the batter is smooth. Take a 10-minute break. When you add the thinly sliced onions to the batter, make sure they are evenly covered. Get oil hot in a large pan so you can fry. The temperature should be around 175F 350F. To make small bhaji, drop spoonfuls of the onion and batter mix into the hot oil. Fry in batches so that the pan doesn't get too full. It should take about 4 to 5 minutes per batch to fry the bhaji until they are golden brown and crispy. A slotted spoon can be used to take them out and let them drain on paper towels. You can dip the gluten-free vegan onion bhaji in your favorite chutney or sauce and serve it hot.
