‘Karitoki and Pania’ is inspired by a Māori myth. It is the story of the impossible love between Pania, a mermaid, and Karitoki, son of a Māori chief.

Karitoki and Pania | Mixed Media on Canvas | 20x25cm | 2015 Māori are one of my influence in my artistic life, and I never miss a chance to be inspired by their culture, art, legends, and design. Karitoki and Pania is inspired by a Māori legend which tells how Pania, a mermaid, left the sea people to marry Karitoki, son of a Maori chief.
