What music do you think Natasha Romanoff would listen to?
I’ve thought about this a lot, and I think Natasha’s relationship to music is complicated. Her training and education included appreciation for the classical symphonic canon, as well as enough familiarity with American and Western European pop, rock and disco, and she can enjoy a very wide variety of music–provided it doesn’t bring up memories.
But she’s got decades of bad memories to dodge and weave around. By chance Donna Summer’s whole catalog remained pristine, but Abba is steeped in blurry memories of blood-soaked discotheques. Her music collection is carefully tagged and curated, and she’s also very willing to use those associations as stimulus, to push herself into certain frames of mind.
Picture her grimly loading bullets into clip after clip as “Dancing Queen” plays.
I think in her down time Natasha listens to environmental sound tracks; nature things like crickets and campfires, but also urban noise, traffic, binaural white noise, certain types of asmr tracks.
Steady ambient noise, like wrapping her auditory vigilance in a blanket.
