chengning has fun possibilities to me, mainly because Wen Ning can easily kick Jiang Cheng's ass but would never gloat about it. Only ever raises his voice to Jc when he well and truly deserves it. Also I love the idea of Jc being a bit of guard dog to the fierce ghost general
wow another ask i forgot about! i LOVE chengning
my preferred dynamics for the characters individually are wen ning x wei wuxian, and jiang cheng x wei wuxian OR jiang cheng x jin guangyao. but chengning is very compelling me, especially post-canon
like. they both adore wwx. but they both had their lives ruined by him too. the people they love are kinda dead because of his actions. they may have died regardless, but not in that manner and not in that time if not for him. but they both still adore him anyway. they also both love their nephews (again, unsure about the exact relation between lsz and wn but nephew seems plausible)
i think chengning having the epiphany about this one day and being like "oh no hes hot" as well would be peak. especially if it happens due to them being forced into close proximity via babysitting the juniors on night hunts etc
but also a big fan of post-siege au where jc finds wen ning in jinlintai and is like "hey you're supposed to be dead, i'm pretty sure jgs literally spread your ashes, why the fuck aren't you dead and why are they experimenting on you? i dont like you but this is fucked up" so he rescues wen ning and then wen ning kinda follows him around like a lost kicked puppy
but also idk what verse its in, can you imagine them actually discussing the core transfer surgery. jiang cheng was knocked out, but wei wuxian had to stay awake for the whole thing. wen ning probably had to hold him down while he screamed and wen qing carefully sliced out his golden core. and wei wuxian begged him to do it to 'save' jiang cheng. i can imagine a lot of fucked up emotions about that and probably at least a kink or two
I've read all of the chengning fics which is so tragic
I had this idea just now.
Jiang Cheng- *phone rings*
Wei Wuxian- Who's calling you and why is their name in your phone Lover.
Jiang Cheng *answering*- Wen Ning yeah I can talk now.
New Jiang Cheng/Wen Ning fic
Oh hey I guess I should promo my chengning fic on this blue site! I wrote this for @sundayduck for @fandomtrumpshate !

I love this pairing and I was so happy to be able to explore all the intricacies of how they could be together.

Fight me.
“Don’t flatter yourself,” was what Jiang Cheng told Wen Ning. “This was a chore on my checklist.”
And then he turned and left.
Wen Ning caught him before he made it back to the road. He grabbed him from behind, picked him up, and slammed him against a tree, so hard Jiang Cheng felt his teeth rattle in his head. Wen Ning’s eyes were all black again, whites completely vanished now. He bared his teeth, and Jiang Cheng could feel the resentful energy curling off him.
You’re not helpless and you’re not innocent, he thought, staring down at him, Zidian hissing on his hand, but holding his strike. I don’t know what you are, but it isn’t safe.
“Why would A-Yuan be in my sister’s nightmares now?” Wen Ning demanded, his cold dead hands curled around Jiang Cheng’s arms, pressing him into the tree so hard Jiang Cheng could feel rough bark digging into his back, even through four layers of silk.
“She killed a child,” Jiang Cheng told him, plainly. It wasn’t hard for him to do the mental math, but he had all the numbers.
Wen Ning abruptly released him and stepped back, dropping him into the dirt in the process. “You’re lying.”
“Why would I lie about that?” Jiang Cheng said scornfully, as he pushed himself to his feet, tree bark catching at his robes, and didn’t bother with any performative sleeve-straightening. “It was a mercy-kill,” he said. “Xue Chengmei was torturing him. He could not have lived, after what he did to him, so she killed the boy, to stop it from going on longer.”
“How do you know these things?” Wen Ning snarled, furious and frustrated.
“They kept records,” Jiang Cheng said. “Wei Wuxian ciphered all his notes, and that made it hard for them to replicate his work, when Jin Guangshan was riding Jin Guangyao to reproduce it. So Jin Guangyao made sure Xue Chengmei kept extensive records of the work he did, in that damned dungeon, and he never quit the habit, even after he’d murdered his father and answered to no one but himself. There were hundreds of pages of those psychotic notes, filed neatly away, when Jin Ling and I went looking. I didn’t let Jin Ling read them. I read them all. Then I burned them.”
Wen Ning’s eyes were still wholly black, and his fists were clenched, and trembling.
Jiang Cheng finally let Zidian screech the way she’d wanted to, even while he kept his arm down. Brilliant violet lightning lashed at the ground, at the tree behind him, at a nearby stone, and then Zidian’s aftershocks shuddered up and down his arm. It felt good. “If you touch me again, I will whip you into the sea,” Jiang Cheng said. “I know what this is like. Because of that, I’m giving you slack. But you don’t get to lay a hand on me ever again, and you will never come into my home without an invitation.”
When he turned to go, this time, Wen Ning did not come after him again.

the ideal chengning/ningcheng dynamic is that once they finally work past all their shit and realise that essentially everything they're mad at each other about can actually just be boiled down to "wei wuxian fucking around and unfortunately other people finding out", they would be the most unstoppable duo. like they would be so on the same wavelength constantly it is scary. they are the best backup to have on night hunts, especially if you have either jin rulan or lan sizhui with you (guaranteed one or both uncles will just kind of materialise out of nowhere with the wrath of a thousand gods in an emergency). they also both know how powerful cultivators manipulate and will not take anyones shit during conferences if they start anything, there will not be another wen ruohan or jin guangshan on their watch.
and if you're ever in lotus pier late at night you might even encounter sandu shengshou and the ghost general being soft and stupidly in love by the water under the moonlight now that they've worked through all their issues and realised that actually no one else alive understand them and their trauma better than each other
