Okay I know I'm incapable rn of shutting up about Brilliant Class 8 and Chen Liusan HOWEVER
In one of the episodes I watched today idr which, somewhere between 6-9, we got to see a class he was teaching for the first time and all the students were bored out of their skulls, little cartoon ghosts floating out of their heads, out of the classroom, and blowing away on the wind.
Y'all he is a teacher who genuinely LOVES the subject he's teaching. He's the math equivalent of the chemistry professor who on the first day of class goes "wanna see something cool", hops up on the desk, dips a rose in liquid nitrogen, and whips around to shatter it against the blackboard. (Yes, this is a very specific example.)
I don't really enjoy math, I don't know how to make it interesting. But a teacher who loves their subject and wants to share that love with their students would. And even if the students aren't as excited about it as the teacher, that energy is still contagious and it makes the learning process fun and engaging.
Liusan wouldn't be off in his own little world muttering to the blackboard while teaching, even though that's how he winds down in his personal time. Like I understand it as a comedy device but it's just not the way things work. He'd be engaged and engaging, at least once a day managing to create a feedback loop of sheer excitement with one or more of his students.
