You’re welcome! I have accepted my role as the old fart who somehow befriends people much younger than herself and thus makes everyone feel young and beautiful! It’s a very noble goal I have in life.

hahaha totally see what you mean there. A lot of my friendships are like that too. We both sort of feel the same way regarding spending time. “required” meetings are strange as hell, esp. at particular times.

Have I mentioned that I really love your attitude about everything. : D But yeah, the whole “frail vulnerable and tormented introverts are superior beings” shtick gets really old really fast and isn’t actually cute at all. But hey, everyone’s feelings are valid on Tumblr, so who are we to judge!

To be fair - I am introvert but I DO think people eventually have a right to say "well you know, you need to make a move now". If someone says no to an invitation often but never really initiates contact, a friendship can and will die.

Also true, but at least in my case, the friendships I value the most are based on a sort of mutual understanding that we hang out when we hang out, and there’s no need to push it. My best friend lived in the States for a year and a half after high school and I only talked to her a handful of times during her stay. When she came back, we spent one night drinking wine and catching up and then we moved in together for two and a half years. I’ve seen her twice this year, even though we live in the same city, but neither of us gives a shit because when we do meet (and it’s usually under the pretense of “getting a quick cup of coffee” that then turns into coffee, dinner, twelve drinks and pizza at 3 am), we just pick up right where we left off. 

And it’s not like I never ask anyone to spend time with me. My problem is with people expect there to be monthly meetings because “FRIENDSHIP >:C”. Forcing rules on a friendship is, at least in my opinion, pretty much the quickest way to kill it.

There are two different words in Finnish for the English word “friend”. The other one (kaveri) means more like a casual buddy who you sometimes meet up with and who you know well enough for them to be more than an acquaintance, and the other one (ystävä) means a proper, real friend you’d pretty much take a bullet for. Most people I hang out with fall under the first definition, and as awfully cruel as it may sound, I wouldn’t be all that devastated about falling out of touch with any of them. The latter category, though? I will fight tooth and nail to keep them in my life.
