The pile of spices, chile dulce, garlic, and onions that went into my #curried #chayotesquash and cabbage. Tomorrow would have been the Romeria, the day of pilgrimage for the entire country of #costarica🇨🇷. It's been canceled, like so many things since the plague started. #lanegrita (that's what they call her) is located in the main church in Cartago. Once a year, people walk to that giant edifice, praying as they go, asking for miracles. There are smaller pilgrimages all over the country, for the people who can't do the main one. The pilgrimage in #zarcero starts at the topiary park and we walk to Los Angeles de Zarcero, behind a truck carrying our replica of the saint. If you have never #planted #chayote #squash before, or if you've been having trouble getting them to sprout... This is what to do! Plant the entire #chayotesquash in the ground, with the top side up slightly above/out of the soil. DO NOT, I repeat...do not remove the seed inside to plant...it will be a struggle, at best! Keep the soil moist during germination, and voila! Your little #chayotes will sprout a vine that will grow numerous #squashes for you.
