Sea Toad (Chaunacops)
A Chaunacops (a genus of bony fish in the sea toad family Chaunacidae) is seen at a depth of 1388.65 meters on Seamount SF2 inside the Nazca-Desventuradas Marine Park.

Silly fish spotlight! Chaunacops fish
Almost looks it's made of felt--ChaunacopsĀ is aĀ genusĀ of marineĀ ray-finned fishesĀ belonging to a family referred to as "theĀ sea toads." Their home is the Indo-West Pacific, southeastern Pacific and western Atlantic oceans. Little is known about them, they live in the deep sea.
I'm enjoying the amazing high-quality images of these sea creatures that an expedition sighted in the underwater mountains off the coast of Chile. Over 100 suspected new species were found in February 2024.
