The Canada Line's RIGHT Turn into Vancouver Centre Mall
The Canada Line glides to a sudden stop. The announcement says, “Now arriving at Vancouver City Centre”. People hustle around the open doors and disappear into the crowd. Looking for an active day myself, I jump off with the passengers and get swept away by the movement of the people. As the crowd pushes up the stairs, I follow, until I find myself at an impasse. One direction leads me onto Georgia Street, and the other into the Vancouver Centre Mall. I recognize the Tim Horton’s and London Drugs at the entrance, but I have yet to explore the mall. I decide to turn right and discover all it has to offer.
Upon entering this hidden, yet diverse centre, I witness an abundance of shopping opportunities. The smell of fresh flowers catches my attention first. Bay Fresh Flowers is blooming with both colour and fragrance. I stop by just to get a tour of their beautiful selection.
Across the way I notice many other useful shops. International News is there, offering a selection of convenient products. At Smarty Mortgage, employees are busy at work, helping their loyal clientele.
I continue my adventure, wandering further into the mall. It encompasses more unique spots to shop and eat, and the diversity between each store is vast. I decide to take a look through some of the clothing stores.
First, I decide to go to O’Gemma. This boutique isn’t like anything I have ever seen. The array of accessories and different clothing labels are eclectic. I can’t decide whether I like the brands from Montreal or the unique jewelry more! The owner shares some insight to the distinctiveness of her store with me, expressing that it has a long history to back up its name.
On the other end of the mall I find Fashion Addition 14+. The style here caters to the modern fashionista, but specializes in plus size clothing. They offer designer labels that don’t discriminate against size and shape, showing off their refreshing take on fashion!
In the midst of this great shopping excursion, I’m finding myself growing hungry; Fresh Street Café is beginning to look very enticing. I make my way over to the little shop in the center of the mall, and find just what the title suggests: a great café, with fresh products (salad bar included). I order myself lunch and spot a place to eat just around the corner of the shop.
Beside the café, I notice that a new store is being added to the mall. Although they are not currently in business, Vancouver Centre Sushi is planning to open soon. I decide I’d have to visit again, just for their grand opening!
I’ve enjoyed a great lunch, and continue to wander the mall. I find out about many of the services Vancouver Centre offers. There is a dentist (Vancouver Centre Dental), and a hair place (Hair Studio 55), Stitch International, and Vancouver Centre Shoe Repair. I even meet Rudy, the shoeshine in the corner of the mall, who offers the perfect shine, with the friendliest service.
And what is a mall without a kiosk? Chatr Wireless is set up in the middle of all these fantastic shops. They have a great selection of cellphones on display, and almost convince me to switch phone providers after hearing about the worry-free plans!
As I begin to leave Vancouver Centre, and make my way back to The Canada Line, I looked back at the intersection I had been faced with earlier that day. Now knowing all there is in the mall, I wouldn’t be hesitant to come back and take advantage of its great services.
Next time you get off The Canada Line, will you turn right?
