#chasing sunshine

Over the past few months, I've been trying to post WIP updates semi-regularly every 2 weeks. Unfortunately, that plan will be changing with the update that would normally come this weekend.

Due to anxiety from the situation in Ukraine and a whole bunch of other stuff that is drawing my time and attention, I just haven't been able to write at the pace I would like.

As a result, I don't know when my next update to Chasing Sunshine will be published, and given the very pivotal part of the fic soon to come, I want to make sure I get it right.

An unexpected encounter leaves an already reeling Rey further confused as the semester comes to an end.

Excerpt:

Where was she?

Poe’s foot bounces nervously under the table and he takes another sip of his water. The display on his phone reads ten past the hour. It wasn’t like Zorii to be late. She practically jumped through the phone the other day when he called the saying that he needed to see her. She was usually the planner between the two of them but given everything that had transpired recently, it was on him to take matters into his own hands.

She will undoubtedly not be very happy with their conversation tonight. Unfortunately — or perhaps fortunately depending on your opinion — that cannot be helped. He has always been the one to rip the bandaid off and it's absolutely the right thing to do. It’s what he wants. Still, that doesn’t make it any less easy or make him feel any less guilty. As the SEAL teams always say: the only easy day was yesterday.

And today, tonight, he was here to break up with Zorii Bliss.

Well, well, well... Here I am with a short preview of Chapter 16 of Chasing Sunshine! I promise there is still a plan with this fic and I’m really looking forward to getting back to posting updates. This next chapter should drop later this week once I finish editing. Hope you enjoy this snippet for now. 🙂

Rey watches Rose wind up and clumsily toss the ball. Three-quarters of the way down the lane it veers unceremoniously into the gutter. “Darn it,” Rose laughs, taking a seat next to Rey while Finn stands and prepares for his frame.

Open bowling night at Hondo’s was one of their favorite pastimes. The venue’s short walking distance to campus and cheap food made it a popular destination. While many students of age also partook in the cheap beer being served, Rey and her friends were mostly focused on the amount of pizza they could eat before bowling became too painful. Kaydel, Beaumont, Paige, and her new boyfriend Matt, were also joining them. Although not ultra competitive, they split themselves up into ‘guys versus gals’ teams with Kaydel volunteering to sit out to keep things even. The Tico sisters weren’t exactly the best bowlers, but a little lighthearted competition made for good fun.

“Watch this babe,” Finn jokes as he prepares to make his approach. Five seconds later, the ball crashes into the pins knocking over the entire set. He pumps his fist. “Yes! Strike!”

Rose rolls her eyes with a grin. “Thanks hon, well done. As a reward, why don’t you boys go get us some more pizza before Paige’s set?”

“Fine,” Finn pouts playfully before pointing at them. “But no cheating while we’re gone.” Beaumont and Matt follow him to the food counter to order more pizza, but not before the latter pecks a quick kiss on Paige’s cheek. The eldest Tico blushes while Rey, Rose and Kydel descend into laughter.

The evening’s merriment was much needed.

Between midterms and the ever growing pressure of her father’s campaign ramping up, the last three weeks have been rough. The really scary thought is that they were still months away from the party conventions and official nominations being finalized. Keeping up with schoolwork, especially after agreeing to stick with her double major, wasn’t even the hardest part. Despite her procrastination and lack of interest in some of her classes this semester, Rey had become accustomed to carrying a heavy academic load.

Oh I promise, I’ll finish it! I have ~5,000 words written and growing, I just haven’t found a good rhythm yet so I’ve held off posting for the past 1-2 weeks. 

I’ve been really nervous the past month as its a big step for me, but I’m really happy its over now. I still have plenty of work to do to clean and move-in, but I’m really excited with how things have turned around in the last few weeks. 

My sincere apologies for disappearing for the last few weeks. I’ve been dealing with a crazy mix of good and bad in my life and I needed to take a step back and reorient myself. That’s really all I’m going to say on the matter as I’d rather put it behind me and not dwell on the negative. 

I would, though, like to extend a huge thank you to all my fandom friends and readers who have sent me messages during this time. Your kind words have truly been uplifting during several of the darker days.
