"That was incredibly reckless, Robinson,” Charlie said, her voice brittle and cracking. “You... you could have been killed.”

Lynn smiled weakly. “Hey, that’s my line.”

“I’m not joking.”

“Neither am I.”

Lynn propped herself up on her elbows. Charlie leaned forward instinctively, trying to stop her, but Lynn waved her off.

“M’ fine. Just tired.”

“Your rib’s broken.”

“I’ll sleep it off.”

But there’s a few things that you don’t know about

“You can’t-” Charlie changed the subject. “You can’t just rush head-on into situations like that. God, you could have been killed. What are we supposed to do then? You’re the leader.”

“Co-leader,” Lynn corrected. “I’m a co-leader, and I was saving you, my fellow co-leader. Better that one of us is dead than both of us.”

There was a lump the size of a baseball in Charlie’s throat. “If you’re killed, then... what am I supposed to do?”

Lynn was quiet before responding. “Soldiers die every day, Charlie.”

“That’s different. You’re different.”

Lynn looked at her questioningly. “What do you mean?”

“Robinson-” Charlie’s heart was going a mile a minute. “I really... I really think I, uh... like you.”

“I’d hope you did. I mean, we are friends.” 

Charlie’s fists clenched. For a psychic, Lynn could be really oblivious sometimes. “That’s not what I mean.”

For a moment, Lynn’s face was blank and completely lost. Then, a wave of realization crossed her face. “... Oh.”

Iron hands clenched around Charlie’s heart. But it wasn’t like she was expecting anything different.

“This was a mistake,” she said. “I need to-”

“Charlie.”

She didn’t know who started it, but something told her it was Lynn. All she knew was Lynn’s arms were around her, pulling her close, and her lips were on hers, and she hadn’t realized just how much she’d missed this. All prior knowledge of kissing, of dating, of anything, left her mind. The only thing that existed was this, the only people in the world were the two of them.

Lynn pulled away and smiled.

“You mean like that?”

“Yeah,” Charlie said, somehow managing to form words. “Yeah, like that.”
