Okay I cannot react to this scene without talking about Things Revealed in Elbaph so take this as a spoiler warning.

This is how they welcome Brook onboard - yes, sure, there's some yelling and some weird questions and accusations of being a scary ghost, but as soon as he says they should have dinner they relocate to the dining room and Sanji cooks for them all. And they eat. Brook eats.

Brook, whose family STARVED TO DEATH, who lived in a dump and ate frogs to survive... Brook who hasn't eaten in LITERAL DECADES. Gets all the food he wants. Freely given by this small crew whose captain has already invited him to join them for good.

... IDK it's just. A lot. To know what he's been through, and see the unthinking kindness of the Strawhat Pirates give him exactly what he needs without question or hesitation.

He says that to him, they are - joy? I mean, there's a lot of ways to translate 喜び, but. They have made him feel joyful again. After losing his family, his found family, his country and his crew - after spending DECADES alone at sea, scared and lonely and being denied even the escape of death... Joy.

Actual sunshine will currently kill Brook, but Luffy couldn't be more like the sun, here. Dispelling darkness, bringing light and warmth. Making life possible again.

And then Brook really is the nakama Luffy has been wanting for so long: a musician!! (Also: hi there Hollow!)

...yep that's a ghost alright! (And aw, Brooke's ship is so much bigger than the Sunny, but has been so empty for so long. Has stayed afloat to protect the last member of its crew...)
