Think the only thing stopping me from becoming as obsessed with Peachbuds is the fact that the series is still not 100% subbed <_>

But the dynamics of the characters is so good!

It's a bit of a meme that Liu'er spends the first couple of episodes being a monkey Princess Peach, but it ends up affecting him mentally as he begins to doubt his own worth in the troupe. And ofc his weird rock bestie becoming the Old King's (Liu'er's adoptive grandpa) successor.

I have an older post dicussing Peachbuds + Wukongverse, and how they try to tackle their feelings for one another.

I feel like they wouldn't have Gay Panic, simply because they don't live in a society that denouces homosexuality (they are monkeys). But what they *would* panic over is being in love with their Best Friend. That's scarier to them than the other being the same gender.

I can just imagine that post-series Mei hou wang, Peachbuds accidentally acquire their "MK" from a mixture of "natural occurances" and bad timing regarding an eerily-similar comet (the au LMK couple cough nervously). Leading to both a separate Stone Egg and an "Egg" within Shihou - who's bursting with joy at the thought of being a parent. Mihou ofc faints in both joy and nervousness.

The Stone Egg doesn't like being too far away from it's natural counterpart - meaning that Peachbuds have to carry both for the duration of the pregancy. Mihou carrying around the Stone Egg to compensate for Shihou's own increasing "burden".

The other monkeys are overjoyed, as this means that their king and their top warriror have already provided potential heirs to the troop.

The little twin horned demons Jin and Yin def start refering to the two "Eggs" as twins early on, and the description just sticks. The fact that the "twins" are born/hatch looking near identical - white fur with mirrored golden markings - further proves their point.

Plum: I mean, you don't have to treat him differently. Both of you are used to showing affection towards each other you don't need to change it.

((I imagine that peachbuds confession will just be like "You're into me" scene from the 2017 Jumanji movie. Except it's kiss to the cheek since Mihou might faint from overjoy.))

Plum just keeps finding Mihou listening to "Jenny" by Studio Killers in the dark and is like "oh dude, deja vu."

Meanwhile with the SWKs;

Shihou: "What does love feel like?" Peach, eating: "Feels like you wanna sit on the beach and eat fruit together forever." Smokey, dramatically: "That your very heart has been stolen from you and you hesistate to retrieve it." Dasheng, chuckling: "Like you would walk into Diyu just to see them smile." Ace: "Like you would die for them. Kill for them. Either way what bliss." Starfruit: "They can make you feel the best and worst things like UGH!!" *frustated loud groan* Cherry, tail curled into a heart: "Like you wanna burn heaven together while smooching." *giggles and kicks feet in air* Sugar: "When the thought of being two and us makes you smile!" Shihou, face red and determined: "I feel all those things about Mihou!!" *gets kinda sad* "But I don't think he feels the same way." All the SWKs who've seen Peachbuds interact: "Odds are; HE DOES."

Most of the LEMs overhear this convo and are like "Aww!!!"

And oh gosh the actual Peachbuds confession would be so awkward and messy. They're teenagers after all.

Mihou & Shihou: *about to have a dramatic kiss moment* Ginseng, interupting: "C'mon! I dont want to see that - not today. While you two were professing your love for eachother, I found the Havoc Demon's cave."

Also the comparison to Jumanji 2017 is making me think of the "Baby I Love Your Way"/Dance Fight scene but with Mihou as Martha. He sees all his alternates as these beautiful warriors, femme fatale-esque fighters, or charismatic idols, and he's feeling like "oh... I'm just me." :(

Shihou: hey all the other us have something called a pet name for the other yous. It's a name of affection and we should have one!

Mihou: what would it be?

Shihou: what would you pet name me?

Mihou: hm... -blushes- sunflower.

Shihou: -gasps and hugs him- I love it! I'll pet name you opal! You're ears are pretty with your fur and reminds me of an opal!

Mihou: -red and hugs back, absolutely happy-

Shihou is such a sweetie, he probably doesn't even care if him and Mihou are a confirmed couple yet. He wants them to have names only they can share together.

Mihou def blushes like crazy the first hundred times he uses the pet name/hears his own.

Mihou, still flustered: "When does it stop making me feel goofy?" Plum: "It never does." *turns to LMK!Wukong* "Aint' that right, peaches?" ¬‿¬ Peach: "No." *giggling blushing mess* (つ≧▽≦)つ

Some of the other monkeys claim that they have no such pet names for eachother.

Dasheng: "Just seems a little... immature. Embarassing even." Peach, suspcious: "Is that so?" *turns to HiB!LEM* "Hey Zhanshi. What do you call Dasheng when you're alone together?" Zhanshi, no hesitation: "Oh, I call him Hot Cheeks cus of his butt. Otherwise it's Husband and Love in front of the kids." ( •̀ω •́ ) Dasheng: *covers blushing face with hands* Peach: "Don't ever lie to me again." Zhanshi, fondly: "He also calls me Tiānshǐ [angel]." （ﾉ´∀`） Peach: "Aww!" Dasheng: *embarassed wheezing sound* (/□＼*)・゜

Sugar/Ganzhe and Shihou get involved too, just for innocent reasons. Shihou gets discounted cus tiny legs.

The competition immediately goes south as they're all chillin on Pigsy's roof.

Ganzhe: "Why stop at watermelon? Watch me crush this!" *manifests a spiky yellow fruit* Peach: "Bud no! Thats a-!" Ganzhe: *crushes fruit with thighs*

A foul odour fills the rooftop. Most of the SWKs are knocked out by the smell. Shihou and Ganzhe don't seem to be affected.

Peach: "...durian." Ganzhe: "Yeah! Its a lot tougher than a watermelon! Stinky if you're not used to it tho!" :3 Peach: "And banned from the apartment complex..." Pigsy, busting down the roof access door: "WHO BROUGHT A FORBIDDED PRODUCE?!" Plum, followed by the other LEMs: "And why weren't we invited to watch!?" The SWKs not knocked out: ( °□°) ( °///°) Shihou: "I don't get the big deal." Mihou: "Me neither. Why thighs?"

So is 2000sCartoon!LEM ever showing himself?

Peachbuds, when they're older, I can see Shihou with the egg OR them finding a rock egg and go "free baby!"

2000sCartoon!SWK and his LEM years on would def mutually agree on going the Nuwa route and making their own egg via clay/rock. Co-parenting buddies. Might take a bonus blessing from Guanyin to make it work though

2000sCartoon!LEM aka "Spice"; only really makes himself known to his SWK at first. He's a lot more shy than the other Macaques since he isn't used to not "acting" as another person. It takes a lot of gentle coaxing for Spice to come out of the shadows. For the 2000sCartoon pilgrims, they likely meet him for the first time near the end of the pilgrimage - and are very surprised to learn that he's been with them for a long time.
