Hunter x Hunter 412: And You Thought Pronouns Were Tricky
I'm not going to dwell on this little aspect of Kakinese too much because I feel like I'd just be rehashing what the chapter itself says, so let's focus on a pretty funny Kurapika face as he tries to puzzle this out. Apparently we've been misgendering poor Shimanu this whole time. She's the humble attendant in Room 1014. Nice little detail that's cropped up about someone we've known this entire time. And quite cool to clarify these characters have been speaking a different language the entire time. Or is it just the names? Kakin was a bit isolated from the global order until this arc kicked off.
Interesting either way. It's a little tricky but makes enough sense. There's a subtle tonal aspect that doesn't translate well but makes it very clear to a native speaker if a name is masculine or feminine. Now, why on Earth would we take all this time to focus on something so small?
Woble is the same case, and Queen Oito was taking advantage of this linguistic quirk to cover the deception. You know what? Good on Bill for catching this one. Leads to a pretty tense scene where we have Kurapika using his lie detecting chain to smoke this one out. The Woble on the ship is actually Oito's nephew. So we do have a good explanation for where Kurapika left off last chapter. Though the gambit doesn't quite seem to be as effective as previously hoped. We also have the very fair question of where the female Woble is at this point in time. Seems like Oito legitimately does not know. The ramifications for the Succession Contest itself are also up in the air. Interesting stuff and hey, once again the Team Twinsies portfolio looking strong because now we have our out to keep Woble out of contention.
Moving on, we get an update on Beyond Netero. The man behind so much of this even though we haven't seen him for a while. Turns out he's been busy filing a lot of lawsuits, which between that and those glasses I'm loving this new side to him.
But what this scene really does is bring out a very interesting side to him. Seems like Beyond has a vested interest in bringing the Kakin Royalty down to the level of ordinary citizens. There's a lot of intrigue there but it's kinda hard to pin down where Beyond may be going with all of this, especially when we have all this extra context of the curse-bearers and his own offspring infiltrating the royal family.
All told, these first two chapters really feel like the typical setup we get in these batches every other year. I'm sure things will start getting wild soon but we've got some great new layers to this roiling game of political intrigue.

Okay, don't make me crazy. Is izuku's hair really turning white?!
HAIR GROWTH ???
I don't especially want to be mean, but I get the impression that when it doesn't concern Bakugo, nobody cares??!
Izuku is fighting a guy stronger than All for one and nobody cares 😭
The only time I saw from chapter 412 was just to talk about Kudo mentioning the relationship between Bakugo and Izuku. Everyone was kicking themselves about the chapter. It's a shame and hurtful...
🚨BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA CHAPTER 412 SPOILERS ALERT!🚨
A memory of baby Deku running after Kacchan again and again
Deku vs Shigaraki
Hard punches with Black Whip maintain his arm.
Poor Izuku... he went through a lot of pain and suffer!... He can barely breathe.
You can see the rage on his tired face but he still tries to smile like his #1 hero!
This hand is from Star and Stripe! What did she pointed at? What did Kudou see?
Behind the door of the Vestiges? Deku? All Might? Someone else? Anything else?
Some kind of truth or faith they need to face in the despair moment?
So Kudou told Deku to let go OFA, to give up this power to "be saved"...
This power that All Might gave him since the day he saw in this little quirkless boy the pure heart to save people in need. BUT remember that Deku tried to save Bakugou while he hadn't got quirk! His legs moved on his own and carried him away.
Ok I’m gonna say how much I called it and how much I’m glad Midoriya is going to let go of One For All. I mean honestly.
One For All and All For One shouldn’t even exist. These are the quirks that can destroy an entire world if left with the wrong hand. Yes, One For All can be given by choice, but have you ever wondered that maybe it won’t be a good idea if it is given to someone that tricks the previous user? And yes, I know transferring OFA is nearly impossible now due to only transferring it to only quirkless people now, but just giving a what-if scenario of Midoriya did happen to find a quirkless who would take it.
Another thing is that Midoriya can be hero without a quirk and we’ve known that from the very beginning, given we live in a real world where Batman and Iron Man are the most non-superpower heroes. It’s especially a smart move when the quirk is practically destroying him right now, best to let it go before it does any damage.
Regardless, I’m still going to be an emotional rollercoaster about it regardless when he gives up OFA. It gives a reminder that this series really is drawing to a close.
