âYou ainât see nothing yet,â Shot after shot and she kept them coming, she loved these after hours parties. She would no doubt be all over the tabloids tomorrow but that was the furthest thing from her mind. She turned to see a familiar face and sighed, âthey send you to wrangle me in?â

âWhat?â Kara turned on her sister, a slightly annoyed look on her face as she took in the tail end of the quickly hidden smirk on Alexâs face. âWhatâs so funny?â
âNothing.â Alex replied in a tone Kara recognized as her âI know something you donât knowâ voice.
Sheâd been hearing that tone a lot today.
âWhy are you here again?â Kara turned back to the mirror to finish checking her hair for the fourth--now fifth thanks to Alexâs interruption--time since Alex had shown up at her apartment. Even with the dumplings Alex had brought, Kara was starting to regret letting her in.
âI canât visit my sister?â
âYou can, and you do-â Kara finished experimenting with a strand of hair but finally deciding to keep it tucked behind her ear, then turned back to Alex, â-but normally you do more than show up with food and then snicker at me behind my back.â
âI donât snicker-â
âYou so do! What do you call what you just did?â
âiâve no idea what youâre talking about.â
Kara narrowed her eyes at Alexâs too innocent expression, then proceeded to cross the room to grab her coat. âYou know I can tell when youâre lying, right?â She pointed to her right ear. âI can hear when your heart rate increases.â
âLying isnât the only reason for someoneâs heart to speed up, Kara.â
Kara paused, then gave a slow nod as she pulled her coat on. âNo, thatâs true. It isnât. But youâre not scared of me, and youâre certainly not straining yourself physically while laying on my couch-â
Alex sat up, âIâm not laying on your couch, Iâm relaxing.â
âWell go relax at home. Iâm meeting Lena for Lunch.â
âYou donât say.â
Kara narrowed her eyes again. There was a different tone in Alexâs voice that time.
âIf this is about Lena being a Luthor, I thought you were pa-â
âItâs not.â Alex held up her hands. âAnd I am passed it.â She shrugged, added, âMostly,â then proceeded to shush Kara with her still raised hands before her sister could object. âLena and I talked and weâve come to an understanding.â
Eyes still narrowed, Kara stared at Alex for a beat before asking,  âWhat kind of understanding?â
âThe kind where we both agree that neither of us wants to see you get hurt.â
Kara stared at Alex for another beat, then another, then let out a, âRiiiiight.â Another brief pause followed before Kara broke it with, âAlex, if you said something to Lena about staying away from me, I-â
âI didnât.â
Kara paused again. There had been another tone in Alexâs voice this time. One that had never let Kara down before.
After another few seconds, Kara gave a semi-grudging, âFine.â before turning towards her door. âBut Iâm seriously going to need you to get out. Those leftover dumplings are mine.
âWhat leftovers?â Alex asked. Or tried to, the words muffled and mangled by the more-than-mouthful of food stretching her cheeks.
âAlex!â
---
Kara had just about gotten over the dumpling theft--seriously, who brings you dumplings and then eats the last of them?--when she arrived at the L-Corp building. A few smiled greetings at the familiar faces between the entrance and the elevators, and one trip up the latter later, Kara made her way to Lenaâs office and knocked gently at the door before popping her head inside.
âI donât know about you, but Iâm starved.â
sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes, i catch life being peaceful. and it feels like a secret shared with myself. like wrapping my hand around a hot cup of tea and feeling the heat run through my fingertips. like laying in the dark listening to songs i forgot that existed and i loved. or when you think you heard something unusual, only to find the rain was trying to get your attention by pattering gently onto the window. the way the light is at its prettiest in the afternoon, as if trying to say âi am leaving soon, let me caress you softly before i have to depart... until tomorrow dearâ. or when you suddenly remember to take a deep breath and you think âwait, have i really been breathing this little this entire time?â. yeah... peaceful, peaceful
Cassie woke up in a terrible fucking mood. Sheâd returned from her hedonistic summer in Italy the day before, and the reality that she had to teach a bunch of sloppy freshmen was punching her in the face. As she stirred whiskey into her coffee, she wondered if even one of the kids pissing themselves with excitement in their dorms right now had potential.
Flipping off every other driver, and a cigarette dangling between her fingers, she drove her G-Wagen to the parking garage closest to NYADA.Â
She stopped by her office first to drop off her bag and collect her music and cane. She twirled the latter through the halls, soaking up the fear from the students and faculty parting like the red sea for her.Â
âPrances on the spot. Go!â she said with a clap, swaggering into studio. She noted who moved quickly and who was slower to follow her instructions, then turned on the music. She drilled the same speech into the freshmensâ heads every year. âWelcome to NYADA. This is Dance 101. My name is Cassandra July, and if you are not suffering from severe body dysmorphia, then you donât want it enough!â
She moved between her students on the lookout for mistakes, standouts and duds. Her hawk eyes saw everything. âThereâs maybe two of youââshe held up two fingersââwho are good enough to make it. For the rest of you, thank you for paying my rent on my loft in SoHo.â

Judy, Maribel, and Susan sat around the kitchen table having their usual weekend chat. However, this weekend things were slightly different. Judy was in a panic about upcoming events, birthday events. âWe have to tell them, Judy, weâve kept this from them long enough.â Maribel watched as Judyâs head shot up from the table. She had been facedown and mumbling about something neither Maribel and Susan could make out.
âNo, no, no, how do we start that conversation?â Judy was about to have one of her panic attacks. Susanâs hand ran along her back for comfort. âThings are already strained between, Quinnie and I. This is going to make everything worse.â Quinnâs eighteenth birthday was coming up in just a few days. Normally being eighteen was something to celebrate but for Judy, it was a reminder.
âWe sit them down and be honest with them. I suggest we do this together, you said she was already showing signs?â
âSheâs been hearing my thoughts, why do you think Iâve been hiding here?â
âMaybe itâs just a coincidence?â Maribel smiled comfortingly.
âShe mentioned my black book, Iâve never mentioned it out loud.â Susan and Maribel groaned, âYes, exactly, you still have it?â
âIn our box, hidden from husbands and prying eyes.â Susan nodded.
Alex had had enough. For months-no, for years sheâd stood on the sidelines and said nothing. Well, mostly nothing, but what she had said had only peripherally addressed her adopted sisterâs obvious--and growing--crush on one Lena Luthor, and even then only because she didnât trust Lena at first.Â
Even after her own revelation about her sexual identity, Alex had kept her thoughts on the way Kara continued to be oblivious to just how deep her feelings for the Genius CEO truly ran.
But now, no more. She was done standing on the sidelines. It was bad enough when Kara had been the only one she knew was denying her feelings, but now that Lena was too? No. She wasnât going to spend the rest of her life watching these two idiots pine over each other and do nothing about it!
Sheâd thought about going to Kara first. They were sisters and she had so many moments from the many, many conversations she and Kara had had about Lena over then years that would, hopefully, make Kara see the truth. Or at least start her looking for it.Â
But even if she did, even is Kara have that âAh-hahâ moment where all the pieces of the puzzle clicked together, she knew that getting Kara to act on her feelings would be next to impossible.
So sheâd start with Lena instead. At worst, it would be a complete failure and Kara would hear about it from either Lena or herself, and that would put her on Karaâs bad side for a few days, and even that outcome had the upside of putting the thought into Karaâs head.Â
A best, Lena would do what Kara never would and make the first move. Alex was positive that if Lena confessed her feelings, Kara would accept her own. That it was only the thought of loosing Lena that was holding her sisterâs subconscious from making the blatantly obvious connection.
Squaring her shoulders, Alex sucked in a deep breath, blew it out, then pushed the door to Lenaâs office open.Â
âOf course I-â Rachel turned away from her mirror where sheâd been inspecting her hair and her voice caught in her throat at the sight waiting for her. It was only for a moment--the show must go on was ingrained in her too much for her to drop a line completely--but there was a noticeable gap dividing her reply, however small.
â-would be happy to.â
It wasnât Quinnâs bare back that stunned her. Alright, it wasnât just Quinnâs bare back; Rachel had seen it a few times during quick changes and sheâs always looked that bit longer than she needed too, but who wouldnât when presented with perfection. But the last time sheâd seen it it hadnât been quite so... colourful.
Rachel realized she still hadnât moved from her spot. She also realized she wasnât sure how long sheâd been standing there. Guiltily clearing her throat, Rachel double timed it across the room to comply with Quinnâs request, but that put her closer to the source of her distraction, and up close it was even more distracting.
The urge to touch it, to trace the lines sunk into Quinnâs skin in shades of blue and black and pink and purple was strong enough to make Rachelâs fingers twitch.
Time continued to march on and She still had yet to take hold of the zipper, not trusting her fingers to stop there.
Rachel wet her lips. She should say something, right? Not saying anything would stand out more, wouldnât it? And it wasnât like she could pretend she hadnât seen it. Not when it covered so much of Quinnâs smooth, flawless skin.
After a few seconds of struggling to find the right words--her improve professor would not be impressed with her right now--she said, âButterfly.â
