Bird no. 298. What? . As a woman in Computer Science, publicly not knowing felt like it reinforced a stereotype to everyone in the room. "On behalf of all women, can you please explain the algorithm again?" . When I started roller derby, at first it was hard to ask questions because everyone was so cool and I wanted to seem like I could keep up without needing help (😂 impossible!). . The first time I tried to use a wine corkscrew, I was ashamed that such a simple device could baffle me. . Every time I go to a new city, I have to ask someone how to use public transit. . It can be so uncomfortable to shine a light on your ignorance when everyone else "already knows"... but what if asking a question (at the right place and time) could be a beautiful gift? . In that moment, you build someone up by giving them a chance to feel smart and useful. . You lift a huge weight off of anyone who was scared to ask, which could change the whole vibe of the conversation. . You enrich your experience by engaging with the gaps in your knowledge. . Truly, everyone who does anything has done it once for the first time. What if this moment is the perfect time to not know? How might asking now change everything? . #goforit #findthoseanswers #changeeverything (at Montreal, Quebec)
