Challenge 133: Wake Up: Black Lives Still Matter
After the mainstream media has stopped covering them, it is easy to forget that these protests are still going on. But black lives still matter, regardless of what else is happening. It is critical that we don’t lose momentum, and that we don’t forget what is important.

Challenge 133 : WAKE UP: Times Up
The 2020’s, what a year so far. A year full of metaphorical, and literal fires; a chance to process in a for seen uproar and a un-forsaken reality of fragility of normality uprooted. Not only just a year but a view into many reservations we seem to put on snooze way to often. Oh next year will fix the government systems, oh our next generation will fix our environmental mistakes. Why don’t we fix it now, not wait on later, not say, oh the next. Why don’t we fix it now? When we can clearly see the problem and the force that disproportionately fail in helping in the matters at hand and make changes that we can see and feel the effects of now. Create a light and path for our generation and the next, rather than leave a problem to fix for the next. We can’t be perfect but we can strive for better than.

Challenge 133 : WAKE UP: Adam and Eve
I simply decided to utilize this piece to experiment a little with the techniques ive been trying to become familiar with.
I created this piece in homage of Adam and Eve eating of the fruit of good and evil and then awakening. Becoming more conscious.Â

Challenge 133: WAKE UP: Racism is a Virus I know we don’t like focusing on two bad things at once but... We’ve got two viruses that are out of control right now and our government is doing very little to help either. It’s in our hands, as the people, to fight for what’s right, to take care of each other, to educate ourselves and our families. It’s really easy to want to slip into apathy because you feel fatigued. Take a day here and there to care for yourself and your mental health. But don’t stop entirely, don’t let it fizzle out. Caitlin

Challenge 133: WAKE UP: How to Love 2020 Edition

For this challenge I wanted to focus on all the current states of what 2020 has brought to us. 2020 has been foreseen to be the year of CLARITY for many reasons. With the covid-19, our environmental collapse, the collapsing of a system that never worked for its people, the battle to end racism and so much more, and it only being June, has been so much to process and fight through not just in the US but around the world. People are awakening in the masses to be reminded what our priorities should be: compassion and selfless for others, love for family, our health both physical and mental, how important it is our environment stays healthy and thriving, realizing more and more how corporate and individual greed and fear has been our downfall as a society, how small businesses, neighbors, and community can step up for one another and help each other when needed, and how many systems of government throughout the world can improve for the safety and well being of the people. Despite all the many tears that have been shed this year and all the struggles we still face the sun is slowly shining through for a more hopeful, loving, and compassionate future for all.

Challenge 133: WAKE UP: Listen. Absorb. Change.Â
I’ll admit this has been quite the challenge and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I struggled to create an image that adequately expresses how I feel. Over time I’ve found the most progress when looking at quotes about change. If there’s anything I’ve learned out of recent events it’s to shut up, listen and to change my actions accordingly. I’ve done a lot of self reflection and I’ve been educating myself on systematic racism and how I can be the change I want to see in the world. - Natasha ps. I was hoping to translate this graphic into a laser cut piece but the background engraving alone was going to take 3 hours. If I get the time to cut and engrave this in the future I’ll update this post and add it in.
Challenge 133: WAKE UP: Take Action
This quote is pretty relevant right now. Wishing for and dreaming of and envisioning a better society is necessary, because we can’t keep going through the endless violence and racism as if it’s normal. But we MUST put in the work to make reality match up to the dream. Listen to what Black activists are saying. Get involved in local politics by getting educated on issues affecting the marginalized in your community, speaking up to your representatives, and voting in people who will listen and work on solutions. Make society better by starting with your own communities. -Sayada
