I get Lexa hating the shotgun wedding thing, even if it's funny af lol. But I think is cuz Lexa seems to be deceptively traditional. Yeah she's a power lesbian in a high profile job and all that. But I always read her as being traditional in like, she wants to be married before babies and thinks it's her place to protect the family and earn the money and keep things rolling. Not in like dude/father/man way though, but like that's just her role as head of the fam. Does that even make sense? lol
Absolutely. I’m glad people are getting that from the character because it’s very much intentional. Lexa is definitely what I would call a 21st century, non-bigotted conservative with liberal streaks. Like she’s all about things LGBT rights, feminism, and pro-choice but at the same time there’s certain things that are ingrained into you when you were born and raised in the really conservative Southern homes that she kept bouncing back and forth in that you just can’t shake off. Family structure is one of those things.
For example, Lexa always told Costia she was the oldest one and had to take care of her younger siblings and that’s not an accident. By the way Lexa carries herself in public it would be easy for anyone who doesn’t know the inner workings of their family to take one look at them and immediately assume that Lexa is head of household. Clarke is totally fine with allowing that because she knows who’s actually the boss in that relationship lol. Lexa definitely sees the world differently than Clarke and it’s not only because of their personalities. Their upbringing had to do a lot with it.
