Contemplating the incredible amounts of valuable knowledge and skills that are being imparted to all of the student leaders from across Ontario at the @cfson Ontario Skills Symposium! #yorku #skills #students #leadership #lancerpride #uwsa #cfsfcee #buildingthefuture (at York University)
Benefits of following the UTSU CFS AGM tumblr
Join us in our latest social media escapade: live-blogging the Annual General Meeting of CFS-National and (hopefully) racking up some notes.
Our delegates, Jasmine Denike, Daman Singh, and Ben Coleman are live blogging their way through this meeting of the Canadian Federation of Students, a student union of student unions (so meta!) using the excellent platform of tumblr. So why should you follow along?
1. Awesome Images and Stuff
Donât you just love bashing annoying Globe and Mail columnist Margaret Wente? We do, and we took a photo of it. Maybe there will be videos or audio in the future. Who knows! Itâll be like youâre really with us in sunny Gatineau.
2. Follow Along with Motions
If you go to http://utsu98.tumblr.com/Motions, then you can see all the motions on the Agenda for consideration. If debate happens about motions in committees, weâll make more posts that will show up in the feed for each motion.
You can check out the feed for our own motion, to reduce the number of signatures needed for a petition to decertify here.
3. Ask us Questions
Want to know more about the CFS, or know more about items on the agenda? Submit a question at http://utsu98.tumblr.com/ask and weâll answer it! (No guarantees for trolls unless the question is really, really funny.)
4. Submit your own Posts
We have no idea why we added this option, but if you do, show us by submitting a post to go up on the tumblr at http://utsu98.tumblr.com/submit. A great way to grab some of that coveted âstudent union fame.â
5. Follow us on Twitter
Twitter is where all the action happens! Follow us by checking our profiles on http://utsu98.tumblr.com/delegates or searching for #fcee15. Feel free to tweet us with questions too (or send us email) if tumblr questions are not your thing.
Happy social media times!
~Ben
As the CFS NGM is opening (in French), guest speaker Monia Mazigh is presenting.

There's your rep front and centre, #OCAD !! I was repping you all weekend at the Ontario exec meeting with @cfson #Repost @cfson with @repostapp. ă»ă»ă» The Canadian Federation of StudentsâOntario Provincial Executive Committee met this weekend to review, discuss, and strategize the campaigns, services, communications, government relations, and organizational development work of our federation. The executive committee passed motions in support of student activists in Myanmar and South Africa who are fighting and facing incarceration for more fair, equitable, and accessible systems of post-secondary education. The committee also voted to begin work on a mental health campaign challenging stigmatization and working toward better student services. Thanks to the student representatives from campuses across the province who made the weekend an effective, collaborative opportunity for student movement building! RALLY FOR ACCOMMODATION: The duty to accommodate is not debatable!
For the past week the entire country has watched in horror as a Memorial University student was denied their right to accommodation in the classroom. Memorial has acknowledged its errors, but we have yet to see a satisfactory resolution that sends a clear message to the university community â and the broader public â that the duty to accommodate is NOT DEBATABLE, and is NOT OPEN TO COMPROMISE.
Students to Government: Accessible Post-Secondary is the Best Population Growth Strategy
CFS-NL, Thursday June 25, 2015
ST. JOHNâS, NL â Students converged outside the Manuels River Interpretation Centre today to protest the double standard of the Davis government, which released a population strategy two months after a budget that jeopardizes the provinceâs achievements in boosting immigration through the post-secondary system.
âAccessible post-secondary education, and maintaining a tuition freeze in this province, is a proven and successful method of boosting immigration and strengthening labour market capacity,â said Travis Perry, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students â Newfoundland and Labrador. âThis governmentâs own data overwhelmingly shows that the tuition fee freeze is successfully attracting and retaining youth. Approximately 86% of post-secondary graduates remain in Newfoundland and Labrador after graduation.â
