A picture of recruits doing a dry run through the T-Cell at Wellington Training Centre, before going through a fire attack cell as part of their Phase 2 Recruit Training. In order to train firefighters in fighting fires inside of burning buildings, instructors simulate the conditions that they would experience in a real life situation by lighting a fire within a cell, and getting those recruits to use their newly learned skills to cool gasses, advance on the fire, position themselves to safely extinguish the fire, and then simulate a withdrawal from the building, which they would use in situations where the compartment had simply become too dangerous or untenable; usually due to an impending flashover or building collapse. In order for firefighters to use their skills effectively, it is important that they recognise and understand the signs of impending flashover or backdraft, and the correct use of penciling or pulsing hose techniques in order to cool gasses and products of unburnt combustion prior to them reaching their auto-ignition temperature. Doing this correctly, enables firefighters to safely advance on and extinguish fires in conditions where they have little to no visibility; an issue they often face inside of burning buildings. #fire #fires #firelife #firerescue #fireservice #rescue #firefighter #firefighters #frnsw #gulgong #emergency #emergencyservices #firetruck #firetrucks #firescience #backdraft #flashover #smoke #flames #hosehandling #cfbt #ignition #autoignition #oxygen #firecam #feuerwehr #feuerwehrmann #feuerwehrfrau #firedepartment #firestation @firstrespondersapparatus (at Wellington Fire and Rescue Training Centre)
