"Peeta and I are finally left alone. He reaches across the table to take my hands."
Katniss Everdeen, Catching Fire pg 234
I wonder what Peeta saw in that moment that made him take both of Katniss' hands in his. Did she appear upset? Has it just become natural? I mean taking both of someone's hands in yours across a table...is such a relationship thing to do, it's casual intimacy. It's loving and meant to comfort, which means Peeta is aware that his touch comforts her, that she welcomes his physical affections. It's part of why I believe that Peeta began to realize she felt something for him and he pulled away after the Quell announcement. Whoa! All this thinking about their thoughts and feelings just made me realize from this post that he would have had to realize he was her first kiss. Poor Peeta, the utter confusion he must have felt with Katniss so back and forth in her actions towards him and Gale. I'm seeing a lot more this time around how things appeared through Peeta's eyes. I don't believe it was easy for them to hijack him but it was easy for them to manipulate his feelings about Katniss because he had some deep rooted anger and pain towards her already.
