Noctua used to be cold and a bit grumpy, but after comforting so many children over the years, he got much softer and very protective of his charges. Before the Observatory got damaged by an evil beam, he would often discuss with the ghost of Sir Sternivus Swinedimple, trying (and failing) to convince him to rest in peace and reassure him that the students weren't being troublemakers.

grus is like kinda arrogant but in a really pathetic way where he's like heh....foolish mortals....they dont even KNOW we're here..... [selects the option to hit ivor when he's being a non believer with like way too much fervour] and then clams up and has constant nervous voice cracks when actually spoken to himself

simultaneously doesn't understand why he is and is [undeservedly] prideful over being aquila's apprentice. i like to think that aquila picked grus because he tends to slack when no one's watching [whip him into shape] and because aquila picked up on his whole loner schtick and went oh....a kindred spirit......and then takes him under his wing. grus is constantly flip flopping between "aquila saw greatness in me that everyone else just didn't notice...obviously....<-convincing himself]" and "almighty help me he's so scary and strict and sometimes he just stands there silently what do i SAY"

if he were like a modern human he'd for sure be deeply insufferably envious of "normies". is just about Average enough and lacks the emotional intensity needed to become a true incel and thank goodness for that. he's just like. a normal guy. but annoying. i have clear and obvious visions in my mind but have no idea if im conveying them well

lacks self awareness. his behaviour is not dissimilar to, say, ivor's and he will with sincerity go "ugh ivor is so arrogant and annoying" and not notice any overlap in their traits or behaviours

prone to putting on a "cool" front to try and seem like a charming hero, which more often than not leads him to agreeing to work he really, really doesnt want to do [he's lazy and thinks that saving the world seems kind of tiring and scary, actually], actively turning down help to seem more capable than he actually is

prone to unearned smugness

thinks stella is a MASSIVE pain, though im not sure how he'll act around her yet, at least initially. one theyre somewhat acquainted i know they'll argue a lot but i'm not sure if he'd be like. instantly annoyed by her or freaked out because there's a strangely glamourous tiny woman* speaking to him or desperately begging her for help because He's At His Limit OR to try seem cool calm and collected initially, which then quickly falls apart

*i'd like grus to be inherently thrown off by fashionable, attractive or otherwise better-than-him people. earnest kindness also injures him. i think his first "arc" will be looking down on erinn for being human but her immediate unquestioning earnest welcoming spirit means he folds pretty early and then idolises her so hard that she becomes like. idk. celestria incarnate to him [lol]

he Might be grossed out by slime. he might be. doesnt love spiders either

takes weird joy in specifically killing cruelcumbers [weaker than him]
