Random fact about me but when I got into TFTGS like five or six years ago I always hc Jack as dark skinned (mainly Latino or native American). I don't know why but imagining him as white was NEVER a thing to me. So I got total whiplash from fanart from finding out Jack was white. Because to me he was always like not white.
I still hc Jack being dark skinned, and Miller just accidentally had an interracial child it so and didn't like it that much.
I have seen a few other people draw him with a darker complexion before so I don't think you area alone in that head canon! Everyone's minds eye is different, how you imagine a character from words alone is always gonna be a bit dif than the next person. We all put our own spice into the mix. I know the lil head canons I add on my own are like that too. At least for me his lil beauty marks, or giving him that teenager hold over of "can't grow a beard but also still has some scruff"- even having his hair in a side part and drawing it wavy, those things are my personal added spice- also me ignoring that hes canonically 5'9 but I prefer drawing him a few inches shorter just cuz I think its fits his whole childhood malnourishment look. Most of everything else I do with him is just picked up from book and blog descriptors- AND that police report which also is where I got a chunk of Rosa's descriptors!(and how I know when their birthdays are and how old they are) I have a thing at least for characters where if they aren't mine I love to get nosy and go searching for any lil details from their media I can find and then branching off from those seeds. Part of why there are those tabs in my books- I did the same thing when trying to figure out the layout if the station too cuz if I wanted to draw it I do like a base to start (still had some things off but as of recent... Jack maaaaaaybe just straight up gave me a hand doodled map of the layout and the VR chat model) I think its pretty neat to see all the dif interpretations personally- all versions are good versions I just like seeing more art from the community in general, eating up all the crumbs ദ്ദി(˶•̀ ᎑ <˶)~✩‧₊
