I need to get to Fowleye, because I’ve seen the wiki (dragon-quest.org, not the fandom site) say that he says that ten of the grotto bosses were created from Zenus’ remains after Corvus killed him, and I need to see what he actually says, because that is directly contradicted by some of the bosses’ dialogues and bestiary entries. How is Nemean so old he’s forgotten the mortal tongue when he was created, what, three weeks ago? (Pulling that number outta my ass.) How was Atlas in the Realm of the Almighty when Celestria treed herself several thousand years ago when he’s only a month old? Maybe they were sealed away in grottos when Zenus’s main body died—maybe the grotto bosses used to be different (I think XI kind of implies such?) —but they’re among his oldest creations, ones he loved so much he put a piece of himself in them, or else broke a piece of himself off in order to mould them from it. That’s why the world didn’t cease to exist when Corvus killed him: he still lives on inside of them. That’s also why they don’t permanently die, as they’re each specific individuals rather than just one of many of the species like with normal monsters: as long as they are not all ten killed in the same instant (which would destroy the world anyway), that fragment of Zenus that lives inside them will bring them back.
Or perhaps he created them all long ago, and the instant he was killed, he split into ten and inhabited these his most beloved of creations in order to prevent the world’s destruction (though this one I’m less inclined to believe, because there shouldn’t have been time for that; in that instant, everything should have ceased to exist. Although I suppose there’s always the possibility that the blast didn’t kill him on impact, and he split himself off as he was dying). But either way, they most certainly were not created upon his death.
