Posing with comedienne and singer Tuesday Vargas (Marizel Sarangelo-Placido, born 1980) and my student, in my classroom at the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts (IARFA) administrative office of the Far Eastern University (FEU), in Manila.
This picture was taken circa 2007, when I invited Tuesday to be my model for a sketching session with my students at the FEU. I realized that my students would not engage or ask questions with my guest speakers in my classes, so I decided to tray an experimental program of having noted personalities sit as my models in a sketching session, and they casually chat with my students.
So apparently, this worked very well. As my students would shed their intimidation of the “celebrity status” of my guests and openly ask questions. I started this program in 2004, with National Artist Napoleón Isabelo “Billy” Veloso Abueva (1930-2018) as my first guest model.
As for Tuesday, I had never really met her before that, but I was a fan and used my connections to get her phone number.
