You’re not even slightly bitter :P I got the jist of it though, basically they messed up a shit ton of things and nobody really wants them. I’m surprised Nova Scotia went red if that’s the case, but hopefully federal libs will be better. But I agree, better than Harper. Like he’s just been so inactive on everything but the niqab...

Friends. I don't do this often so I really hope this time it'll mean something. Please, if you live in Canada and you are old enough, please please please VOTE on or before October 19th.

You may know that I don't really enjoy politics (which is funny considering so many of my close friends / people in my life are super into it) but look. What I care about is making Canada a better place. I care about my country and the people who live here.

And more importantly I care about youth. I care that in the last election voter turnout for people aged 18-24 was less than 40%, while turnout for those 55-75 was over 70%. I care about youth being seen as engaged, about people taking our concerns seriously. I care about crappy articles that claim our generation doesn't care that our country is falling apart.

I care about a lot of things, like gender parity and pipelines and affordable daycare and student debt. And none of that - NONE OF IT - matters if I don't vote. And if you don't vote. One vote isn't going to change much but damn - all of us? Think about it. Seriously stop for a minute and think about your decision in the upcoming weeks.

So, I don't really care who you vote for (though as a social work student and general person with a conscience, I'd prefer anyonebutharper.ca) but I really, really, really care about if you vote or not.

Not voting is not standing up for yourself or other youth. It is not "showing that you don't like any of the candidates". It is doing EXACTLY what old conservatives want you to do and HELPING THEM win again. Even if you don't love any of the parties, even if you don't really LIKE them, vote. If you want this to be a lesser of two evils race, fine. Pick one issue that matters and vote based on that. But vote. Because we need to show that youth care before anyone is going to start catering to us.

So, please, get educated, read some platforms (or news articles about them if you have no time www.cbc.ca/…/canada-election-2015-federal-parties-election-…), take some quizzes (votecompass.ca is pretty great) and take literally half an hour out of your day this weekend or on October 19th and vote.
