The thin beige curtains whipped around wildly from the gust of wind that bustled through as he climbed his way in without invitation or warning. Sliding the window shut the outside world closed off along with the drafts by merely a thin sheet of Plexiglas. Without even so much as a glance around the room he immediately knew exactly where he stood - inside the Bennett witches room. The aroma of melted candle wax couldnât mask the distinct sweet fragrance that came from Bonnie on the occasions heâd been in close quarters with her. Her scent blanketed the air and with no complaint and wandering eyes he took note of all the pale pretty colors that decorated her living space. Why was he here, to kill her? No, that wasnât it. That wasnât even close to being correct. It was something he couldnât even begin to piece together in that scrambled brain of his. The right words to describe it didnât even exist in the dictionary.. It wasnât possible to pen out.
Kai strode slowly over to her bed, soaking up in the strange bliss and comfort he took in being there. His fingertips grazed the cotton comforter that clung to her mattress dancing mindlessly on the surface until he finally reached her pillow. Thatâs when his cloudy gray eyes were directed at something that sent a shiver of shame throughout his entire body. Shame, it was new to him so it only hit his chest twice as hard. It was mingled with other feelings that had quite frequently coursed through his veins, guilt and pain, it all crashed over him like a tidal wave of blue salty bitterness. He could almost taste the emotions on his lips, what sat on her bedside table was the cause for this current break into sanity. Ms. Cuddles idly watching his every move, he could see his own miserable face in the reflection of its beady black eyes. It was an inanimate object yet still he could feel the condemnatory glare.
It took him back to her birthday last year, when she had full intentions to take her own life. The word struck him, forgiveness. He was here to yet again.. ask for her pardon on his past wrongdoings. He extended his hand out to touch the stuffed animal, but stopped only seconds before he felt the rough fake fur that covered its tiny cotton stuffed body. A new idea coming over him, the water that had pooled in his eyes he easily blinked away and turned his cheek to the seemingly judgmental bear.
His spirits lifted once again as he wandered through her living room and straight to her spacious kitchen. Scavenging through her fridge for the perfect happy birthday âplease forgive meâ feast. Kai was pretty sure heâd seen it before whether it be on television or not he wasnât sure, it didnât matter. All he knew was a warm gesture of some sort normally won a person over. Cajun chicken pasta, all the recipes had been located right down to the basil herb. He set it all out on the granite counter top as he pushed up his sleeves with a confident glint in his eyes. The task had proven to be harder than expected, he nearly let the pasta boil to long, having only caught it just in the nick of time before it bubbled over the sides. The room was now coated in the delightful aroma of the dishes heâd so perfectly plated, placing them on the small round dining table, only enough for two. Kai wasnât even use to that much company. A few candles and touch me ups creating the therapeutic and inviting environment heâd been striving for, he cut the lights from above. It would be a surprise celebration.
He pulled out his chair, the wooden legs squeaking on the linoleum floor before taking his seat. It seemed like the minutes moved to hours when heâd really only been sitting there for five at a grand total. Uncertainties about doing this started to swirl around in his mind, but when he heard the front door creak open he found himself on the top of the world.
But just as she walked in his confidence wilted and he cloaked himself before her olive green eyes could catch sight of him and bring about the inevitable disappointment she was bound to have hidden in them after learning he was the one who prepared all of this. Kai took in the look on her face as it was now unbeknownst to her who had pulled this all off and he could only presume she would give the credit to her friends. Something he debated letting them have while he watched her with a clenched jaw and tightened muscles âWhat am I doing?â he mumbled angrily as his eyes followed the little witch in her curious pursuit of the culprit âThis is stupidâŚâ gritting his teeth Kai had to refrain from smacking himself in the head for thinking this would ever work after the rendezvous the two had a couple nights ago. When she disappeared into the kitchen he uncloaked himself and used these few extra minutes to ready himself for the confrontation âHiâ he said bluntly waggling his fingers unevenly as she wandered back out from the kitchen âCare to have a seat with me and talk awhile?â wearing a genuinely broken smile he hoped for the best but only assumed the worst. âI made pasta.â
