haven't really had time for it to sink in yet but i am still thinking about marx watanabe. thinking about how he loved to love and be consumed, how he loved to let the world take him where it would. thinking about his introduction---he doesn't make games, but he plays them.
to play a game is to allow it control over you, and trust it to lead you, even if only for a moment. just as marx allowed himself to fall in love with every facet of his life, the player must accept every groove of the game and let it become a part of themself. they aren't doing nothing---gamers participate actively in their art of choice, arguably much more than other mediums---but to play a game is to submit oneself to it.
it's not that marx is without a personality or agency, but he seems happy to be wherever life takes him. he's willing to mold himself to his circumstance, which lends him social prowess and general contentment, and, in my mind, makes him the playerest player to ever play. i'm not sure if this is an intentional aspect of his character or not, since he has such a strong npc association, but. it's like 3 am rn ok
