Beautiful Waterfall in the Catlins, South Island, New Zealand
First light by Ian@NZFlickr at Nugget Point Lighthouse 83 km south of our home. It is a 900 m walk from the car park in freezing winds but I think worth it for the 2 minute burst of light before the clouds swallowed the sun. The lighthouse was built about 1870 just after my great-grandparents arrived in NZ having sailed from Melbourne probably past these dangerous rocks. I am grateful for a careful captain! PS there is a higher viewpoint behind me but you have to scramble up a cliff on lose rocks past a sign warning of injury or death if you pass the sign. https://flic.kr/p/2jGUpaP

This other side of this rocky beach is famous for yellow eyed penguin sightings and while not a penguin was seen, the campers along the cliffs got a pretty unique wild mermaid sighting (we had a few confused looking spectators) 💚 . . . . . . .
