It’s essential to know and remember our history. We honor those who came before us, fought this same fight, who laid the groundwork and cleared a path. Our mutual aid organizing is inspired by so many but especially the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, the Catholic Worker Movement founded by the anarchist Dorothy Day, and Food Not Bombs. From 1968-1975 the Panthers used donated food to make sure that children in their communities had enough to eat before school in dozens of cities around the country. This led the federal government to do the same, making their program unnecessary. They also regularly offered free groceries to the community.
